It isn’t difficult to get into relative to most of the other Florida schools, but it still might be a reach for you. If you get an AA at a Florida community college first you should have no problem getting in…

I actually just toured the main FAU campus in Boca 2 weeks ago… They’ve actually got a pretty nice campus, I was a little suprised. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

FAU, it seems, USED to be the college that , well, mainly local students would apply to as their backup school, but in the past couple years, it seems - with the change of the economy, things have changed, and their Freshman Profile has changed.

This is the freshman profile they have on their website for the freshman that just entered this fall :
Freshman Students Mid-Range - 2009

High School GPA 3.2 - 3.8
SAT Score 1510-1720 (new way - using all three scores I believe ??!!)
ACT Score 22-25

This meaning that this is what they call the middle 50% - or, the “average” student that was accepted, however, there is a small percentage that were accepted that had lower scores, and a percentage that had higher scores.

We were there for their open house at the beginning of the year (I forget exactly when) but since being accepted, (well, my daugher), we decided we would go again (tomorrow) since the first time, our tour guide wasn’t really the greatest (we got lost or something at one point) and we were in a pinch for time that day and left a little early.

We / my daughter is still up in the air about where she will actually go, and want to wait for a decision from UF in February.

SO…we’ll see !

i just applied for fall 2010

hi oolopooli

so are you instate? / do you live close?

loony2nz- actually an out-state(Philly)

im really tired of winter lol

ha! I can understand that since we are originally from New York…but after living here for 21 years, we are tired of perpetual summer…its JUST now cooling off a little… :-(

lol…I too get tired of summer sometimes…but this winter thing gets on my nerve a lot more

rgs - you’re just at the line for GPA. FAU actually has a cutoff and does not accept any applications below a 2.6. This is the highest minimum GPA standard that I’m aware of in Florida; most places only require a 2.0 to be considered for admission.

As Loony pointed out, FAU’s popularity has markedly increased because the football team has won two bowl games, we hosted the Republican Presidential Debates, Brooke Hogan toured our campus for an episode of her show and we’ve built or renovated a number of new facilities including a mall-style food court ($5 million) and new Recreation Center ($10+ million). In the next two years they’re building a football stadium, more housing and restaurants/shops so the popularity will continue to increase.

Good luck!

If you retake the SAT, which i hope that score was Math n Reading only…and get higher scores you should get in. FAU isn’t hard at all, specially if you apply this month.

You could also attend Santa Fe College in Gainesville, where students live with UF students in private apartment complexes. The same parallel exists between Valencia Community College and UCF in Orlando. The great thing about these two programs is that you can transfer directly from Santa Fe to UF or Valencia to UCF if you complete certain gen ed classes with an appropriate gpa. These options allow you to get the college experience of living away from home if you cannot get into a four year university directly from high school.

Look into whether Palm Beach Community College has a similar agreement with FAU.

Hello. I’m a mom of a 2011 student. Can I ask you what you decided? We’re looking at FSU, UF, USF and she is talking about FAU. I’m reluctant to consider FAU due to its past ratings, but I have heard that has changed. Your post caught my attention, as you’re waiting to hear from UF. Have you decided, may I ask, and what finalized your decision if I may ask. Thanks!

Wow, no recent posts here?! :-(

I currently am a Senior in high school, graduate in 2011. My GPA is average (it really sucks lol), but SAT score is decent. I am gonna take the SAT again in October 2010. I heard that FAU usually likes their applications around that time, so i am a little worried about not receiving my scores in time. I have done a lot of community service hours though, I volunteered at the ER in a hospital. Also played varsity Golf and participated in a few school activities. What are my chances of getting into FAU or FIU??

Thanks,
Asad

hello, im a senior in high school, im graduating 2011 i really want to attend fau, my gpa on facts.org is a 2.98, and sat score is a 1350 all three sections. i have taken three ap courses junior year, ( APUSH, AP CALC, AP ENG) . Thanks in advance !

Just visited FAU in August and they did not seem like a commuter college and their entrance requirements were on the level of Florida State and UF.
Although every college we toured seemed to be more interested in the whole individual and were open to taking into consideration GPA and standard testing, but also other aspects such as sports and activities. I don’t have my notes but I am 99% sure there was not an essay for this entrance requirement.
The main campus is expanding and we did witness a lot of construction going on. Campus was very presentable and clean. Dorm rooms were OK. Two bedrooms; one double one tripple, one bathroom.

GPA 2.92…weighted 3.05…i applied for summer term…how are my chances?

Oolopolli- I’m from lower gwynedd my d wants to apply for all 2012. Arevyou going to fau
