Florida Board of Governors creates new medical school

The new medical school is going to be at Florida Atlantic University (Boca Raton, Ft Lauderdale area). This will be the third medical school in South Florida.

Sounds a lot like the Boca campus of University of Miami School of Medicine.

Exactly! I guess what it really means is that from now on, the degree will be awarded by Florida Atlantic University instead of the University of Miami. I had no idea that this was the original goal of the program.

I wonder what the current UM-Boca students think about that? I’d be ticked.

FAU ended there partnership with UM earlier this year. UM was pretty much leasing space from FAU. The students at the Boca campus can finish out their time there and the changes wont affect them. However, all incoming class to UM will be starting at the Miami campus.

It wasn’t, but with Scripps establishing a new research center nearby, FAU changed its plans and now wanted to have an independent school.

Ooooh. Forget the students. I bet UMiami is ticked then.;)
