Florida financial aid

Hey does anyone know much about Florida grants? I’m a Florida in state residence with an EFC of 0$ and I’m a first generation college student. So I should qualify for 2 or 3 of Florida’s grants, but I haven’t heard anything about this from my college (my college does participate in this school) our schools financial aid office is awful though so asking them is a no go. Do I need to fill out some other application besides the fafsa for this? Thanks sorry if this is a dumbass question.

You need to talk to the school(s) about whether other applications are required. Have you checked out the school’s financial aid web site? Which school is this?

@twoinanddone do you have some advice for this student?

@“Erin’s Dad” I checked the schools pages but they weren’t very informative and I haven’t yet contacted the school but will do that the second I can

If it is a private school, you should get $3300 FRAG. You do have to fill out a form that proves you are a resident.

There is also a Florida SEOG, and I believe it is like the federal SEOG where the state gives the money to the school and the school decides how to distribute it and which students qualify. This money doesn’t come out until later in the fall (about now) but what my daughter’s school does is award $500/sem and then makes an adjustment if there are more funds available. At a public school, there may be a lot of students splitting these funds.

If you qualified for Bright Futures, there can be adjustments made to your account about now too, because it pays by the credit and if you add or drop classes, there can be an adjustment.

I don’t know about first generation grants.

You need to understand your financial aid. Go to the FA office with as much information or as many questions as you have. Make an appointment to speak to someone who can answer you. Where is my FRAG (only at private schools)? Where is my bright futures? Pell grant? Federal SEOG? Is there a grant for first generation and how do I get it? The answer to some of these may be that you don’t qualify or they don’t have any funds, but at least you’ll know that you were considered for all available funds.

Do you qualify for Bright Futures?
Are you currently in high school, dual enrolled (taking college classes that count both for high school and college), or in college ?
What colleges are you applying to or currently attending?
Have you filled out FAFSA?
