New College of Flordia?

i'd go to UF in a heartbeat.

new college of florida? hm... no1 every likes to reply to my thingies :(

You may have a chance at some decent Florida schools (and non-Florida schools), but 1290 is not so good of a score (especially on a 2400 scale), so work on getting your SAT score up. Also, be careful, next year's schedule seems quite challenging, and after all that studying and taking exams, you should be rail thin like me, if you're not already.

its a 1290... as in 680math 610 verbal... not 1290/2400... thats like REALLY REALLY low... it wouldnt correlate AT ALL with my classes... LOL

The SAT is on a scale of 2400..Ask anyone.

i know, but right now a lot of colleges still dont really look at the writing score yet... so i left it out...im a CCer... c'mon!

darkknight, he obviously didn't get a 1290 out of 2400. Otherwise, i think he would have accepted that community college was his fate a long time ago.

You should post what you got on the writing section if you want more accurate advice, because most schools are starting to take it into account. I can't really help you here, because i don't know anything about Florida schools. I will say that a 1290 on the 1600 scale is definitely good enough to get you out of Florida if that's what you want, especially since you have a pretty good GPA.

Pitzer and Pepperdine are matches. Pomona and Claremont McKenna are reaches. Have you looked at Occidental, Rollins, and Eckerd? Bump that SAT up to a 1400 (or 2100-2200), and you'd have a good shot at most places.

sigh... "under"overachiving=depression :)

virtually no schools are looking at the writing portion of the SAT...

this was the first year of it and they are not going to be able to compare it to anything else, so they cant determine if a 700 is very good or average. Therefore, most colleges are only considering the math and the cr portions of the SAT

It all depends on what is important to you. Are finances an issue for one. Who cares where you get in if you cannot afford to go there. This isn't about collecting trophies, it is about the next four years of your life. What part of the country would you like to live in? You mentioned some California schools. Is is your dream to move to California? What type of students would you prefer to be around? Is school spirit important to you? Is academic prestige an issue to you? Do you prefer a school with a significant Latino presence? Are you happier being a "big fish in a small pond" or a "small fish in a big pond". Answer these questions for yourself and CC and you will start to find some more meaningful answers to your college search.
You will be eligible, as you must know, for the 100% tuition Bright Futures scholarship as a Florida resident to attend any Florida Public University (they give a set amount for Florida private colleges as well). This is just too good to pass up for many of Florida's talented students. Apply early and whole-heartedly to the Florida schools on your list....you never know what will happen next spring and you will be glad to have choices to fall back on.
