@saismom, I have not figured out any more about the tax filing. I am leaning toward having him file, since I don’t think it can hurt. Also, he wants to submit the FAFSA even though we don’t need to for FIS, and we won’t qualify for need-based aid. The FAFSA application asks if the student will file taxes. I had to exit our application until I figure that out. Hence, the “leaning toward filing” that I mentioned previously.
I don’t see a downside to him filing a tax return, but I am definitely no expert on taxes!! Oh, and to add to the confusion, my younger child received a 1098T (I think that’s the number) for his dual-enrollment classes! I may actually have to pay someone to do our taxes this year. I’m not sure the tax prep software I normally use will be up to the task!! I’ll post if I find anything out.
Forgot to add: I’m not on the UF parents Facebook page because I am one of the very small minority of people who do not have a Facebook account! I figure that if I get on Facebook, I will never do anything else! (I’m very easily distracted!) I wish it was an “open” page so I could read comments without having to join Facebook.
