Florida Incentive Scholarship revisited

Notice to all interested parties: I think the FIS was spared the Rick Scott veto pen. I searched the 15 page document of his veto list and could not find any reference to the FIS. The proposed name change by the senate to Benaquisto Scholarship was rejected though so I believe it remains the FIS.

Here is what I know about the FIS. It was passed by the Florida legislature and signed into law by Governor Scott.

Section 2500 A Line 66. You MUST get a institutional award to qualify for the FIS. The FIS is the highest COA for whichever PUBLIC state school has the highest COA. We were told by Miami that this amount will be added to our son’s other scholarships and grants. You don’t get full Miami COA but you get the amount equal to the the COA at the school the state uses as the highest COA. Sorry if I’m rambling. I think the highest COA in the state is either FSU or New College and is maybe around 23,000 so you should get 23,000 from Miami. Last year, the state didn’t give Miami anything until October or later so we are expecting his financial account to be in limbo for a while until the FIS posts. This has been quite the process. We are constantly be given misinformation including the Fl Dept of Education telling us last week that the FIS was no longer in effect. I panicked and had to call the office of the Governor to get clarification on the budget. Good luck to everyone.

Um. What about corporate awards?
