Hello I’m an international student from Taiwan and I got accepted into both schools. I’m probably going for business. FIT offered me a 13,500 scholarship, but I’m not sure about their business program. :/

Both are private so be sure you can afford it

You may want to ask your question in the FIT forum.

<a href=“Florida Institute of Technology - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/florida-institute-technology/

As a fellow business major and recent college graduate, I would choose the University of Tampa over Florida Institute of Technology.

IMO, UT has a more quaint, beautiful, compact campus than FIT, and it’s located in a much more populous, cosmopolitan, and international city (Tampa). As a business major, the latter is very important because you will have access to more and better internship and, if you decide to remain in Tampa following graduation, post-graduate employment opportunities. Also, UT is located only minutes from a major international airport (TPA) whereas Melbourne, OTOH, is located over an hour away from a major international airport (MCO). As an international student, I would assume that this would be important to you. You’d probably have more luck finding Taiwanese restaurants and shops in Tampa than Melbourne, too.

People are friendlier and more approachable in Tampa than Melbourne, as the Gulf Coast of FL is generally friendlier than the Atlantic Coast due to more native Floridians and more Southern and Midwestern transplants. Most of the people living in and around Melbourne are from NY/NJ/PA, so people tend to be a little less friendly and polite overall.

On a final note, I’m guessing that FIT enrolls many more international students than UT, so if you go to FIT, you may end up befriending and hanging out with other students from Taiwan or China and, therefore, miss out on the full experience of going to college in the US. Just some food for thought.
