Okay so my friend told me his brother got accepted to MIT, but chose to go to FIT because they work closely with NASA. I decided to look up their rank on the USNews list and they're like 179 or something ridiculous like that. So I find it hard to believe that somebody would turn down MIT for such a low-ranking University. Is FIT all that good?

I asked that very question to a Florida Tech (*see below) rep at a college fair–why would someone qualified for MIT consider your school? He said they have sunshine, palm trees, and beaches. He understood that MIT-caliber kids have better options. MIT also works with NASA.

They refer to themselves as Florida Tech. FIT is more commonly used for Fashion Institute of Technology.

I’ll give them credit for persistent marketing. They are by far the leader in emails and mailings to my engineering candidate son (HS junior). They even offer $4000 off tuition (1K per year) just for visiting if you eventually enroll.

Anyone able to further comment on the quality of this school?

One thing that bothered me was the enrollment breakdown. Their website says that close to 1700 undergrads live on campus, but their full time undergrad enrollment is over 3500. That seems to indicate more than half their students are commuters.
