Florida Opportunity Scholarship

I was emailed the other day saying I am eligible for this need-based scholarship. Once I found out that recipients receive a full ride, it has been on my mind constantly. Does anybody know when I might hear? Or how I'll hear? I'd also love to hear personal experiences with the scholarship, so all comments welcome.
Thank you!:)

I also received the e-mail! Did you send out the supplemental form already?

I did! I’m just kind of confused about the whole thing. I was looking at last year’s post about it and people were saying that if we got the email saying we qualified and if we send the supplemental form ASAP, then we would get it for sure? I don’t know how true this is because online it says they pick about 400 out of about 1200 qualified people. I’m just so anxious about hearing if I got it or not :/

Well we got it late Friday afternoon so I am pretty sure we are the first ones  Did you send the form priority?

I actually faxed the form Saturday so unless there was somebody there Saturday, they probably got it today. A full ride would mean everything to me, as it would you too I’m sure! I would like to hear from people who actually got it so I can hear first hand experiences :)

I know that I meet all the requirements for this scholarship but I haven’t received an email…do you know if they’re are still sending them out or did everyone get them friday? or does it come with your financial aid package? because I haven’t received that yet either

Are you first generation (meaning neither parent got a bachelor’s) and is your family income under $40k? If so you should have been considered for it… I honestly have no idea about whether or not there are going to be more emails going out. Financial aid packages haven’t gone out yet so I’m not sure about that either. You can always email the department and see what they say

Yeah I meet both those requirements…I guess I I don’t hear anything this week ill call them. Thanks for your help!

I’m kind of nervous they said they didn’t receive my supplement until Tuesday…I hope this doesn’t deter my chances of getting the scholarship. I can’t attend without it. Anyone send it out later than the received date and still got it?

The deadline is May 15th so I doubt that they receive all 300-400 of their admitted applications during the first week. Otherwise they wouldn’t make their completion period a month and 10 days longs.

@wuantonsoup - Did you call to find out they received it then? Because I haven’t been able to get a hold of SFA counselors…

I just called UF and they said that they received my supplemental form Monday. I faxed mine Saturday so I figured they’d get it Monday because I don’t think they work on weekends? Idk… The man on the phone also said that the form first goes to Student Affairs and then to FOS so that might take a little time too. I’m so nervous I just hope we all get it!:)

@UFEddy I just called the main financial student affairs number and spoke with a staff member. I gave her my UFID #and she checked to make sure they had it on file.

Devons I hope so too!

I’m just wondering about how the people even decide who gets the scholarships, since many people qualify for it and the application is so simple.

I too have wondered this… I assume that the lower your family income is, the better chance you have. Somebody with an income of 35,000 may still qualify for it but somebody with an income of 20,000 would get it instead. I’m sure there’s much more details than that but I really have no idea…

My daughter got the same email. But just how much money in aid does this scholarship give?

Sent from my SGH-T989 using CC

The scholarship covers whatever is not covered by scholarships or grants. It basically picks up any loans you have to make sure that you can go to college on a full ride. Did you already send in the supplemental form?

Did anyone attach an additional page for the FOS? I wrote two paragrpahs better explaining stuff…

No I didn’t… I probably should have but that’s for if you have pretty unique circumstances. The only thing unique that I have is having divorced parents but I had already mentioned that on the form.

Has anyone heard about this yet? I’ve been patiently waiting and honestly I have no idea when we’re going to hear…

I think they notify you if you get it in June…
