Florida Pre-paid and Bright Futures -- anyone know how it works when you have both?

I was wondering how the Bright Futures Awards work for students who qualify but also have prepaid. Is there a best practice or strategy for incoming freshman? Looks like my daughter will be starting Summer B, which probably won’t be covered by BF if I’m reading the tea leaves correctly. Anyone have any insight?

GatorDad305 I know just enough to be dangerous. I have been reading lots of threads though and if you use the search under the topic UF and put in “Bright Futures and Florida Prepaid” you can search anything that’s been talked about regarding this topic. I found this thread below particularly helpful.

Question about Bright Futures and Florida Prepaid College

Florida Prepaid kicks in first, so that money will be applied to whatever you owe do the university. (I believe UF arranges this automatically in connection with Prepaid) Then when Bright Futures drops (after the drop/add week) it goes to any remaining amounts you owe. If there is excess, it goes into your student’s bank account (assuming you’ve set up the connection to do that as UF recommends.) Not sure about prepaid and Summer B though!

Just as an aside, it doesn’t matter what the prepaid money is slated for. For example, our kid’s prepaid was for “tuition and fees” – Bright Futures does the same. So whatever doesn’t get applied to “tuition and fees” ends up being applied to other school bills like housing.
