I already applied to UF and sent the $25.00 non-refundable fee to save my spot for housing. I am under the Florida Pre-Paid dorm plan. I just got a letter from pre-paid the other day that outlined how the dorm plan worked once I started choosing a dorm. Apparently, a set number of dorms are set aside for pre-paid students in each hall. Also, not all halls are covered in the plan, and the letter listed the dorms that were covered at UF. Not surprisingly, the only dorms covered are the basic, older ones. It mentions how you can sign up for another hall, but you have to pay the difference using the dorm fee that exists today, instead of the one that is otherwise used from 1990. Did I understand this right? I also am not sure about some other details. For example, if I was to go to the UCF honors college, they require you to stay in the honors dorm. (Which is Tower 3) Tower 3 is not listed as a covered dorm, though I am required to stay in it. What happens then? Thanks for your help.

You pay the difference between the amount Florida prepaid dorm will pay and the actual cost of the dorm. This year Florida prepaid dorm is paying $1890 per semester so you pay anything above that amount.

Also, with regards to UCF, you are not required to stay in the Towers or on the honors floor of the Towers in order to be in Burnett. That is your choice, totally. Several student leaders from Honors that we talked to during one of the Friday open houses lived at home, actually.

One of the worst things about UF is the dorms. They were described as "dungeons" by Princeton Review Rankings this year and ranked pretty high in the worst category. The Honor dorms are supposed to be better... Def pay te difference and go for them if you can...

A lot of people just decide to live off campus..

I think thats kind of an exaggeration. I like the dorms thats why I have stayed on campus so long. To the OP, pick jennings if you want to go with a pre-paid dorm. If you want the nicer dorms, then murphree, keys (if you have enough credit), springs, or lakeside would be good choices.

I disagree with you. U of Florida students themselves rank their own dorms highest in the worst category!! Just look at the Princeton Review rankings... out of 366 colleges...
