Does anyone have any experience with using Florida Prepaid with an OOS public university?

Florida Prepaid transfer form (which I filled out and submitted in the Spring) says that OOS school must invoice Florida Prepaid. The OOS school is telling me that they won't invoice Florida Prepaid because it seems to be a College Savings Plan. The OOS school recommends printing out my billing statement for the term and submitting that as my documentation of the tuition and fees charges to your account.

Can anyone share their experience using the plan outside of Florida?

My son used his Florida Prepaid plan with an OOS private (Rice). All we did was submit the transfer form and then Rice took it from there. Our invoices always showed a line item for “expected Florida Prepaid payment” at the first billing, then a credit for that amount would show up a few weeks later.

@patsmom how does your son like Rice? Did the Florida Pre paid pay out for the tuition plan as well as local fees? We have the 4 year tuition and the local fee plan as well as the 2 year dorm plan. Do they separate it all out?

All we had was the tuition plan so I don’t know the answer to your question. You can call their 800 number and ask, though – they’re very helpful on the phone.

My son graduated from Rice in 2011 and he loved it. In fact, he works there now!

Thanks for the response! My daughter loves the whole school and is in talks with a coach but I still don’t know if we can afford it. Our EFC is a bit high. Actually it would be cheaper for her to go to Harvard or Princeton! Fingers crossed Rice will work out.
