Summer semester typically is a slower time compared to Fall, but not always. Courses can be more condensed, but can have fewer students. The population of campus is quite reduced.

For freshmen accepted to Summer, it's a way to get a few basic studies courses out of the way. Oftentimes, some courses are not offered in Summer.

Some dorms are closed due to reduced demand.

I always enjoyed Summer semester. A full course load may be only three classes...making transition to the university easier. Plus, it's a shorter semester and passes quickly.

Parent, the program they offer to HS grads starts June 25th and runs to Aug 3rd. The regular summer program runs from the first week of May to Aug 3rd.

So it's roughly the same time span as HS summer school but it's not a review class so a lot of material has to be covered in what seems to be a short time span.

Ray, were it my daughter, I'd do it. It's not a review session - the Summer-admitted freshmen are in for real and the scores count. But really, it's that way for all freshmen...don't work and your FSU time will be quite short.

I think FSU views it as an easier transition than entering in the Fall. It's a gift for those with credentials not quite to Fall levels, but they're still given a shot. Once the kids get a few courses under their belt it doesn't matter what semester they were admitted in. Some kids opt for Summer even if they are admitted for Fall, as they want the less stressful transition.

It's a far better status than being wait-listed, where the chances are about nil of being admitted.

I woke up to this email. It's crazy because I got at 11:03pm =] heheh

Ray, many students in Florida actually apply for summer. They do so for several reasons. Some think they will have a better shot at acceptance come decision time, some like the idea of getting a head start on the experience at a time the campus is not so busy.

She got acepted.........this is GREAT. If FSU was her dream, GO FO IT. This is an acceptance pure and simple, Don't make it any less than it is. Be Happy.

You've worked very hard and earned this privilege. I'm glad to have been able to see you succeed.

btw - Preview is a great time to see where you want to live and talk with faculty about majors, research, Honors, everything. Even though we're alumni of FSU we still attended each Preview with our daughters. It's worth it. Make hotel reservations NOW...

What Bari wrote demonstrates exactly what I loved about FSU. After comparing all my campus visits to UF, UCF, USF, and FSU- FSU was by far the most congenial school. I think that the students are great, and I am just so happy that I can be a part of it.

This is true once you get there, too. The difference between being at Florida State and back in hs is huge. It's easy to make friends and have interesting conversations. This is one of the advantages to living in the dorms on campus.

Then...wait for football season. The whole campus seems to be excited and engaged.

Congrats to everyone....my best friend also got into summer so i'm glad, he'll be tagging along with me since I was admitted into summer awhile ago, more by choice than by force. And Ray, as far as i know unless your daugther was specially admitted into the CARE PROGRAM, her fall admission wont be tied into her performance with summer.

I do have a question though how does orientation work for us summer people?

And this is going to be quite funny, i feel like i already know must of the people going to summer, 5 from my high school, and possibly 3 from here.

Thanks for the summer session comments. We have netted out from your posts and a quick call to FSU today (they were glad we weren't a venting call) that the summer program is very manageable and very low risk. It isn't the intense 6 week program that one imagines at first assessment. Obviously as you all have pointed out it does have numerous advantages over just coming in the fall. It even adds some clarity to the housing decision. It's great information and we have relayed it to Lindsey.

Process is kind of on hold, a class member today died of Cancer after a very short illness so they are all dealing with that news that they got at school this morning.

Really sorry to hear that. One of my classmates died as well my senior year. It effects everyone weather you knew them or not, I didn't know him but I was very angery because so many kids took senior year for granted and he didn't even make it to november of our senior year. He died homecoming morning, while we were all leaving homecoming he died. I know lindsey will be ok. Congrats to everyone!

FSU, were not sure that she that is what it is. She hasn't received any congrads e Mail like the other kids got and everything is still hidden behind the firewalls which we can't access. I guess it only becomes active once she accepts the offer, the mail package may provide some additional info when it comes. They haven't exactly gone out of their way to welcome her to the University. At this point she is still thinking and comparing.

the same thing is occurring to my best friend today we tried to fillout his housing application and it said that he hadn't been accepted, when he tried to pay his admission deposit it said he wasn't listed, so he called, and they told him that after he accepted the admission offer that he would be allowed to access those pages...but that it may take 2 to 3 days......UCF still hasn't given him a decision.

FSU I don't know how long he has been waiting for UCF but it doesn't take a long time for them to decide, they move applications along pretty quickly although this is everyone's busiest time. I guess he has been checking the webpage for his status, but they are also very helpful when you call. Ask for an admission person and ask what the status is and when he might expect a decision. Make sure you let them know you are very excited and interested in attending, the person on the phone will more than likely be on the review comittee. Is he waiting for UCF before he makes his FSU decison?

Well i guess i should give you background on the situation, he and I applied at the same time fo uf,fsu, and ucf, he knew from the outset that I had much higher stats and that I was a shoe-in while he was a probable, I submitted my application 11.12.2006 for UCF, on 11/23/06 I was accepted to UCF, 12/10/06 after waiting a month for UCF to decide he'd call there admission office, they said they were having problems with transcripts and that he should send it again, 1/12/07 he calls again, they recieved his transcript and promised a decision soon, around late feb. he heard he was being deferred from ucf, and they told him to show improved test scores, he did, increased 70 points on his SAT, HIS myucf status page has not been updated, 2 phone calls and 3 emails later, no timeframe has been given....He basically gave up on the school, although he absolutely loves there campus, and the girls. He thinks that if there admissions office is unable to reach a decision imagine how it will be at the graduate level.
