Florida State Engineering

I looked at the pre requisites for FSU engineering and it looks tough. i've got a knack for math so i figured id do something with that. but my question is, after all my pre reqs, do i leave fsu and go to famu or something? is the college far from there? will i have to transfer? what's the deal?

It is a “Joint use” facility located between both campuses.
You don’t leave FSU.
I will be attending the program also.

is it a long walk? and uh why should i attend fsu engineering and not ucf engineering?

because im planning on getting a bachelor’s in engineering and then a masters in business…

By all accounts, UCF engineering > FSU/FAMU engineering. You’ll also have better access to internships and jobs in Orlando.

faced with another hard decision, great.

OK, since I chose FSU engineering OVER UCF engineering I guess it falls on me to start defending FSU & the program.

This is what I posted a couple of weeks ago on both the FSU & UCF boards:

Made up my mind- I’m going to FSU

After visiting both schools over the last 2 weeks I have come to the conclusion that my deposit will be going to FSU.
I’m not going to badmouth UCF because in reality I was pleasantly surprised by their campus and specifically their engineering facilities & connections in the engineering field.
However:
1- You have 2 full years of general ed classes & pre-major classes that I need to get thru first. I believe in those 2 years there are only about 2 minor pre- engineering classes that I am required to take.
2- At this point I am not 100% sure that I will actually want to pursue engineering once I start I have always liked business also.
3- If that is the case and I switch majors, I would rather be at a University that has more choices. I believe FSU (other than engineering) is that school.
4- Worst case I could always transfer to UCF for my junior year if I still want to pursue engineering and don’t like what I see at the FSU/FAMU program.

At least that will get me 2 years of a good college experience!

The only negative thing that I will say about UCF is that it still felt like a commuter school. I was there most of the day on a Saturday and other than groups of people at the gym, the rec pool & around the track there was hardly anyone around. And no it was not Spring break.

It sounds like you are not 100% sure you want to be an engineer either. If that is the case then FSU is the clear choice.

PS in the rankings the difference between the 2 programs is NOT that great.
Facilities yes UCF eng > FSU Eng. Thats about it.

And no you have to take a shuttle bus to the Joint facility it is next to the FSU golf Course., Too far to walk.

You MUST visit both FSU & UCF campuses! you will see what I am talking about.

Per the USNWR 2008 Rankings:

[Search - Best Engineering Schools - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/eng/search/state+FL)

UF # 24 with a Score of 57.
UCF #80 with a Score of 27
FSU #92 with a score nof 25

UNRANKED:
FAU,FIT,FIU,UM,USF.

Not that rankings ultimatelly mean anything but you can see it’s NOT a slam dunk that UCF engineering > FSU engineering.

What is pretty obvious is that UF has the top program in FLA by a lot.

The College of Engineering is very close to the Mag Lab.
