Florida State University chances?

Hey guys... I was just wondering what my chances were at FSU. I already applied early decision and was deferred (applied with a 3.05 GPA, 1160 SAT). I've improved my stats a little bit, and I'm planning on taking the SAT at the end of Jan again and rushing my scores in if they are better than below.

GPA: 3.1 (probably 3.2 at the end of this semester)
SAT: 1200 (600-math, 600-verbal)
Extracurriculars: About 6 clubs, 75+ hours community service, 20+ hours a week working

I applied to:
Florida State University (deferred, re-applying)
University of Central Florida (accepted)
University of North Florida (accepted)
University of South Florida (?)
Florida Atlantic University (?)

I'm pretty sure I'll be accepted at both USF and FAU, but FSU is my first choice and I really have my heart set on it.

Was anyone accepted to FSU? Please post your stats if you were.

Thank you

how did you get deferred from florida state? their sat range is 1050-1250

Well, when I applied I had an 1160. I've since improved it to the 1200

well i think your stats are not holding you back. i would just try to let the university know that you really want to go. maybe visits might help

Are you talking about UF or FSU? Florida State has rolling admissions, so they don't have ED. Univ. of Florida has deadlines and ED.

My stats (1380, 4.6) are much higher than the ranges and I got into all of the schools you applied to and their honors colleges. I suggest you go on to USF's web site their decisions are usually online days after you apply. Once FSU gets the new scores you should be in. They usually make their decisions baised on the GPA and SAT scores.

Julie

Well, at the high-school I'm in, an admissions representative from FSU comes down every year at the end of September and they let kids apply early. Everyone gets their decision by the middle of October. I'm not sure if we're the only school that does it. That is how I got my "early decision."

Anyone else know about what FSU is looking for?

well since it is a state school and most poeple applying(pry like 20k, not sure though) have similar stats, they are pry looking for something special, maybe they didnt like your lazyness(no sports and still a bad gpa)in case you didnt know many classes are takin oout when computing gpa, they take out pe and non academic classes, so you could of made a 2. someting depending on your schelude, you could always transfer...
"their sat range is 1050-1250" you seem to be in the middle 50, i guess they didnt like you, or your essays,

Thanks

Does anyone else have any other info on FSU?

you should definately be in FSU..i have no idea why they deferred you...if you have a 1200 and 3.2 you should be absolutely fine...if anything happens you should definately challege it...its a joke if you dont get in- its not hard to get into- good luck

Thanks, I hope I do :/

the fact is that FSU is a state school which is made for kids in your state to get in. they have to take the average kid in pretty much. and your stats are a little above average

yea, FSU would definitely take you.
i wouldn't worry about it.

although i'm trying to figure out why they deferred you in the 1st place... ?
that's odd.

I know two people that were accepted to FSU this year:
1. 1100 2.6/3.4 GPA (Gifted program and some APs alot of Honors classes)
2. 1110 3.1/3.7 GPA (Gifted program and some APs alot of Honors classes)
Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? If it is weighted, this could be why you were deferred. If it is unweigted and you have taken APs or Honors, it doesn't make sense that you were deferred.

By the way, I don't think there is early decision at FSU, only rolling.

FSU ended their rolling admissions process last year, go to this link http://www.fsu.edu/prospective/admissions/faqs/admissionsfaqs.shtml#3

At our school (a private school in South Florida), an admissions represenative comes down from FSU and personally goes through some applications submitted in early October. About 50% of the kids who applied got accepted this way. They've been doing this at our school for years now, and I got deffered when I applied this way.

My 3.1 (maybe 3.2 ... STILL haven't gotten my report card) is weighted, unfortunetly. It'll probably drop below a 3.0 when it is changed.

Your GPA was probably the problem. I still think you will be accepted eventually though especially with your new SAT scores. Like someone else mentioned, let them know FSU is your number one choice. I think they are competing with UCF now for admissions. Let them know you were accepted to UCF but you really prefer to attend FSU. Better yet, ask your guidance counselor to relay this message to them.

From the FSU website:
Middle 50% statistics for fall of 2003: 3.5-4.2 GPA, 1120-1300 SAT, 23-27 ACT.
