Florida State University/ FSU Accepted Rejected Class of 2024

I think the language is ambiguous – and it is the same language on the website. I agree it seems like an unnecessary formality. However, @vistajay told me unequivocally that his NMF son was required to apply to honors last year despite the fact that honors admission is “guaranteed”. My D would certainly rather forego writing more essays, but we would rather be safe than sorry and will check about this with the honors office.

eta: the key here is that the letter states admission is “guaranteed” but does not state admission is “automatic”.

Yes, best to check. Nothing ambiguous about guaranteed admission, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have to fill out an application - again, as a formality.

LOL – that “formality” requires 6 essays.

I never considered the difference between guaranteed admission and automatic admission - you might be right that you’d still have to fill out the application as a formality. Definitely worth a call to the Honors program to ask.

Maybe things have changed or the wording is just bad, but in prior years it simply meant you were invited to apply but it did NOT guarantee admission. If you review FSU honors admission page it also indicates that it’s an invitation to apply and makes no mention of guaranteed admission.

Just wondering if you have found out anything about moving up to summer from spring. My son was offered spring as well. Just curious.

Need some advice on declaring major in the application for RD. I am OOS, GPA: 3.60UW/3.95W (8 APs, 6 Honors & 2 DEs classes), SAT 1370, good ECs and essay. Which one of the following majors should I declare to have better chances for acceptance? By the way, this is for fall admission as a freshman.

  • Biology, Business or Undecided

Ouch! If my son has to write 6 more, that guarantee may be tested by the “quality” of his essays.

Daughter was accepted w/ OOS tuition waiver
SAT 1510
weighted GPA 4.4
Decent EC’s
Dance/work
No service hours

Does anyone know the dates for orientation?

Planning is going to be tricky since high school for her is not even finished until the last week of June!

@BMC9670 OK, I finally was able to speak to someone in the honors office after getting no response to a phone message or an email. It was a student, mind you, but she seemed to speak to someone who knew what they were talking about. She said the Benacquisto students are “auto” admitted to honors, but to be considered for the Presidential award, all students, including Benacquisto students, need to complete the honors application. So I suppose if your student is not interested in competing for the Presidential award, he/she would not need to do the application. I suppose @vistajay may have been mistaken about his son not getting auto admit last year, or the procedure has changed for this year. My D is doing the application (and all 6 essays, ugh), anyway, because she might as well try for the Presidential.

A shot at Presidential is worth the 6 essays, IMO.

@vistajay Agreed!

OOS from Georgia accepted through Seminole Pathways.

Real Estate Major

Weighted GPA: 3.67
ACT/SAT scores: 33 ACT, 1390 SAT
Class Rank: 217/636
7 AP classes

Only extracurricular was 3 years of the DECA program.

I had a very strong personal essay. Probably doing the FSA program and heading to Florence until January.

@amsunshine Thanks for calling and clarifying!

I agree that applying for Presidential would be worth the extra in funds for SA and research. Anyone know what the essay prompts are? S hasn’t created an account yet.

The only down side is that my son’s essays were probably the weakest part of his applications so far.

I am curious if students doing Seminole Pathways and/or the Freshman Year Abroad are guaranteed housing when they arrive on the Tallahasse campus in January or the following Fall?

yes, they are!

OOS -IL- F accepted
Pathways Fall-London (maybe full year if she likes it)
29 ACT superstore
4.75 w honors and (some) AP classes
2 varsity sports
Lots of public service.

From what’s posted here-shocked and grateful! But happy and will be likely be attending London campus. (UF longshot admit)

Anyone w expertise or tips-love to hear them. What a year!

May I ask her major? My D will be a F 2020 fall prob London and a Bio major. How is your D faring w making her own meals? Are there a lot of outings w students? Any surprises or expenses. Sorry! Lots of Qs…

On the “Application Status Check” page we see the link to the “letter” with the confetti falling. However, nowhere do I see a prompt or link to “accept” or “decline”. Is everyone else’s the same way? Will probably get my question answered today as we are going to campus to visit the financial aid office, surely someone will let us know. On the offer from UWF there is an “accept offer” button. Surprised FSU doesn’t have one.

D got an email this morning offering direct admission to the Honors program at FSU and indicating that the honors app is needed for the Presidential Scholars program. This was nice to get clarification in writing for Benacquisto recipients.
