Florida State University

I know this is a bit of a reach for me, especially considering my low GPA, but I can hope, right!?

Anyways:

ACT Composite Score : 24
Sat : Overall - 1150, 600 reading, 550 math.

Unweighted GPA - 2.7
Weighted GPA - 3.5

Extracurricular activities / clubs:

Founder and President of the Music Aficionados club, Trumpet Section Leader and 1st Chair in the High School Band, Piano Student who has studied privately for 9 years, Senior board.

Commuity Service:

Paricipant in last year's relay for life ( +18 hours of community service ), +40 hours of beach cleanup, +20 hours of work at a retirement home.

I'm also looking at:

UCF and USF.

Can anyone help me?

I'd say you're about 55% to get in. Your GPA may be low, but at least it looks like you have been challenging yourself. Your ACT is average for the school, and your ec's will only help you.

You should be able to get into USF no problem, UCF about the same chances as FSU.

I take pride in my writing, so i'm hoping my essay will give me an edge above any other candidates.

As for UCF, a friend of mine has already been accepted, and her GPA was a 3.5 weighted, and her SAT was a 1080, so i'm almost positive i'll get accepted as long as I turn in my application within the week.

The only thing i'm worried about is FSU. :[

bumppppppppppp

Actually, FSU is much more difficult to get into than UCF. Specially since FSU just had an adimissions freeze. FSU may not be as tough as UF, but it's head and shoulders above all of the other state schools. Your numbers seem a little low for FSU, but you should be fine for UCF and USF. Give it a shot anyway, your essay might help a lot. Good luck.

I've heard that if I apply for the summer term instead of the fall term, i'm more likely to get accepted. Is this true?

Yes, it's true. Apply as early as you can.

Ditto FSUMBA - apply EARLY. Fall 2008 at FSU will be very tough for most anyone.

Consider retaking the SAT and ACT after additional preparation.
