Florida Transfer Student

Good Morning Everyone,

Background - Veteran Community College Transfer Hopeful. (Eight years in the Marine Corps/Currently using VA benefits/VA Disabled Vet)

Later this year my fiance and I will be moving from southern California to Florida. I am nearing my required 60 units as well as my major pre reqs (Political Science/Pre law i suppose) for the UC system. One of the main reasons why Florida has recently become an attractive option is the new Florida GI bill (Veteran Students resettling in the state of Florida will not be required to pay out of state tuition). My GPA is currently a 3.54 and should improve following this current term. Question being???

What are my chances? - I understand that students transfering from Florida community colleges maintain the right of way and rightfully so. However, what are my chances of getting into University of Florida at Gainsville or University of Northern Florida? As previously stated, I am out of state, have a decent GPA, and a vet student with the means of paying tuition costs (heard that could be a factor within the application process). Applying this fall for next academic year.

Thanks for looking and your responses will be extremely helpful. Have a good one!

Political Science (at UF) is not very competitive, your GPA is more than high enough (same at UNF).

Make sure UF/UNF will recognize your classes. You have to complete STA 2023 and 3 Political Science courses from: POS 2041, INR 2001, CPO 2001 or POT 2002. However, CA will use a different naming convention. It’s not a problem, but something you’ll need to make sure they (UF/UNF) take into account. If it seems to take too much time to process your request, call UF/UNF and make sure they don’t have any questions, etc.

Welcome to Florida! :-h

Thank you! Do I talked to the liberal arts admissions center at UF. They told me that all the requirements necessary are 60-90 units and the pre reqs that you previously mentioned. I am a bit confused as here in CA we follow a plan known as the IGETC. It outlines all gen ed requirements that must be completed in addition to program pre reqs.

Disregard the *Do
