Florida Virtual Schools over the summer

Hello,
I am interested in taking Florida Virtual Schools during the summer. I made a poor choice this year (sophomore year) by skipping out on an AP- AP psych, which almost all of my peers took. Would it be possible to take AP psych over the summer? I will be traveling for the first 2 months, and I'm not sure how spotty my Internet will be. I have never taken a FLVS course before, and I really have no idea how it works - is there a teacher who requires you to log in and participate for a certain amount of time per day, or is it more flexible? Can you speed through it in a month, or is AP psych a longer, more difficult course? Are there deadlines for sections or for course completion? Do you have to take the AP exam, and if so, when? I assume FLVS can improve one's HS GPA?
I live in Florida, by the way.

I forgot to add, would physics honors be a better choice (time/difficulty level)?

Nobody can help?

FLIBstudent, I’m pretty sure you can’t take an AP course over the summer, just because when you take an AP class with FLVS you MUST take the AP exam or else you will be given honors credit and there are due dates that must be met or you will be given honors credit and will not be eligible to take the AP exam in May (the only date to take the exam).

That being said, I’m currently taking AP Psych with FLVS and the class is not hard, it is just a little time consuming because you must work at least 2 hours a day (during the school year) to stay on pace. The material is very interesting and FLVS is very good about making sure you know how things relate to your everyday life, thus making it easier to remember the plethora of terms and theories. If you contact FLVS and I am wrong about not being able to take an AP over the summer, then I would still strongly advise you against doing so.

If you really want to take the exam, then self-study with Barrons and Princeton Review over the summer because that provides a lot of flexibility and you can just brush up a month or two before the exam next year. If you really want to take the class, then take a class you would have had to take during the school year over the summer so you can take AP Psych during the school year instead.

Since you’re going to be gone for two months, I think you should try and take the easiest flvs class you can or are comfortable taking. For example if you have to take an art credit before you graduate, then take guitar or photography, plus it will be a little GPA boost. I took Algebra 2 over the summer and I only got the first semester done so I’m taking the second semester this summer. I did get a high A, but still I would have liked to get it all out of the way. I was traveling too, (10 days in honduras and then 3 weeks in North Carolina both places rarely had internet and I was always really tired) so it wasn’t easy.

Flvs is flexible, but only to a certain point. They will usually give you a one week vacation per semester (unless it’s AP) where you don’t have to submit anything, but other than that you must submit something weekly or else you could be withdrawn and receive a withdraw fail on your transcript. It also depends on your teacher, my FLVS Latin teacher requires I submit three things per week of else I run the risk of being withdrawn. To answer your question about having to log in a certain number of hours, no it goes but how many things you submit weekly.

Regardless of what you take over the summer, it will be challenging because of time restraints (even more so if you are away for two months), but if you work really diligently you could manage.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t think I’ll be able to manage this summer, but I may be able to take a non-AP course the summer between Junior and Senior year.
