Fluctuating GPA

Hi Im worried about my GPA.
GPA is the only one that is getting on my way of getting into schools i want to go (Columbia, NYU, Brown, JHU, Northwestern Etc)

First of all I moved to US from korea, and starting attending the last semester of Middle School here. Then when I went to High school, I started to miss korea, my friends there, and especially the food :). I began to lose my concentration and had bad relationships with my american friends here. So here’s my GPA

freshman 1st Sem : 4.0
2nd Sem : 3.7
Sophomore 1st :3.2
2nd : 3.2
Junior 1st : 3.7
2nd : 4.0
Senior predict 1st :4.0

As you can see, it went way down to 3.2 and realized that I can’t let this ruin my life and started to gain control of myself.
Overall unweighted GPA is 3.75 or something, I can’t exactly remember.
weighted is 4.8 or 4.9
Do you think I should mention this to the college applications ?? that because of this my grade dropped and that now I’m ok ??
Do you think they would think as an excuse ??

No youshould not mention it in your applications because it willbe looked at you are making excuses/whining. Just focus on the here and now, and what you can offer to a the the college community

omg!!! i cant' believe this,,, i had almost exactly teh same pattern as you and due to the same reason, except i wasn't from Korea, hehe.. but in my sophomore year, i had problems with my KOREAN friends,, anyway.. it's all good now,, i hope!! (btw, i don't think the flutuation matters, since most schools on your list will not count freshman year GPA,, in that case, you'd have a steady increase) good luck tho!

Well, don't mention the food anyway. What is your class rank?

Right about on the 10% edge

plus I think my school is a pretty competitive school
We had an PSAT average of 179 this year

I'm confused. Are you a junior or senior.

You say you had trouble adjusting, but you did great your freshmen year. Meaning you had the potential to do just as well your sophmore year. In my opinion difficulty in adjusting would have shown in your freshmen year then in your soph year your GPA would have been higher. Thats how adjusting usually works. How could you miss the food? Usually Korean parents continue to cook korean food like kim chi(sp?). I have alot of Korean friends that are mixed and they still have a lot of Korean food. They usually have a whole refridgorator for Korean food itself.

yeah, i would haVe to agree with Faxandue, i came from China almost 4 yrs ago, and i went straight to high school. it didn't take long to adjust though,, i mean, i can understand the isolation we experienced in teh beginning, but what really got me was all the stupid things happened between me and my friends, within the asian group. long story, anyway, i never had any trouble with the food here, i actually think american (or western) food is more complex than oriental. i like it a lot :)
