Do any of y’all have an idea of how many levels of Fluenz French would be equivalent to two years of high school French?
I’m on fluenz 3, and it’s not structured the same way as an ordinary french curriculum- there’s a lot more emphasis on day-to-day speaking and understanding. I would say fluenz 3-4 is the equivalent to french 2, and would absolutely supplement this with a french text book or subject test prep book.
Fluenz 2-3 is equivalent for grammar and skills to HS French 2, but you get almost no cultural/historical information (since the emphasis is on the practical, whereas as a student you’d learn about how French teenagers live, ie., collège, lycée, le bac, les vacances d’été, les ponts, le goûter, etc.) You’d need to supplement it with a book like 60 million Frenchmen can’t be wrong or equivalent, and check out a 1st year college French textbook (those usually compile in one volume everything you’re expected to cover in HS 1-3 or even 1-4 depending on the strength of your HS program.)
