Flunking out of college and looking to return. Need input/advice!

So here’s the deal, I will try to keep my explanation short. I’ve been attending a 4 year school (CSU) for about 5 years now after hitting a serious roadblock in my life a couple years ago with a bunch of personal problems and depression. Basically I’m on the verge of flunking out of my college now (on probation, with a GPA of like 1.95, not pretty) and at this point I’m thinking it would be best to do university withdrawal, get my depression issues in order, and hopefully get a second chance.

I basically want to start over with my entire college career, start my degree over, and finish in four years. My plan right now as it stands is to go to a local community college for a year or so, getting basic credits out of the way, etc. and do well in my courses to kind of demonstrate my turn around. I plan to reapply to CSU at that point and to my degree program (Electrical Engineering). As you might expect the program is competitive but not too bad (something like a 2.75 GPA for transfer students and B’s in Calc and Physics classes, all of this I’m more than confident I can do at a community college if I’m focused)

So the ultimate goal I guess is to do well at community college for a year or so, and then get re-accepted back at CSU. I’m well aware that when reapplying I need to show my entire history of institutions attended, including my not so pretty stint at CSU. My big question is can I choose to basically “drop” all of my credits from my first stint at CSU when reapplying? Basically have none of my credits transfer (except the ones from community college obviously) as a way to essentially reset my GPA? Will this help with reapplying to CSU? Would they treat me like a transfer student coming out of a community college with a good GPA? Any input and advice is appreciated. I’m really just trying to find a way to turn around my life at this point and get a good college degree.

Yes, get your depression issues addressed first.
if you are in college now and flunking, then do a medical withdrawal.
I am not sure if you can “start over”, per se. You need to find out if you can retake a class if you have passed.
But if you start taking classes and do well, and the 4 year colleges sees that the last year/2 years of comm college have gone well, then they willprobably admit you.

Talk to somebody at CSU before you withdraw. Ask how all of this could work so you know with confidence what your path will be.

Hey thanks for your reply. I know that you can retake courses even if you’ve passed them before because I retook a course after getting a C in the class a few years back for a better grade. So that’s my hope right now, that if I demonstrate good progress at a community college I can get readmitted, choose to not transfer anything from my first stint at CSU, and start my courses from scratch so to speak.

Rather than get guesses from people here about what they would think and if this is possible, why not ask the admissions office at CSU directly?

see for example, standards to be re admitted if you were on probationary status when you left.
