So here’s the deal, I will try to keep my explanation short. I’ve been attending a 4 year school (CSU) for about 5 years now after hitting a serious roadblock in my life a couple years ago with a bunch of personal problems and depression. Basically I’m on the verge of flunking out of my college now (on probation, with a GPA of like 1.95, not pretty) and at this point I’m thinking it would be best to do university withdrawal, get my depression issues in order, and hopefully get a second chance.
I basically want to start over with my entire college career, start my degree over, and finish in four years. My plan right now as it stands is to go to a local community college for a year or so, getting basic credits out of the way, etc. and do well in my courses to kind of demonstrate my turn around. I plan to reapply to CSU at that point and to my degree program (Electrical Engineering). As you might expect the program is competitive but not too bad (something like a 2.75 GPA for transfer students and B’s in Calc and Physics classes, all of this I’m more than confident I can do at a community college if I’m focused)
So the ultimate goal I guess is to do well at community college for a year or so, and then get re-accepted back at CSU. I’m well aware that when reapplying I need to show my entire history of institutions attended, including my not so pretty stint at CSU. My big question is can I choose to basically “drop” all of my credits from my first stint at CSU when reapplying? Basically have none of my credits transfer (except the ones from community college obviously) as a way to essentially reset my GPA? Will this help with reapplying to CSU? Would they treat me like a transfer student coming out of a community college with a good GPA? Any input and advice is appreciated. I’m really just trying to find a way to turn around my life at this point and get a good college degree.
