Today D received 4 mailings from Earlham. One was an invitation to fly in for a visit. One of the dates is right around when they were already planning on visiting. Did any of the present Earlham parents visit on a fly in day?
I am impressed at how personal the mailings have been. Earlham seems like a caring place.

Are you talking about Admitted Students days, or is this something different?

The Fly_in dates are not the same as the admitted student days.

Hi! I also received a fly-in invitation. I’m not sure if I’m going to accept it… Is Richmond as awful as people say it is?

Richmond is a lovely town! Very midwestern… But, HELLO, it is in: the MIDWEST. East-coast snobs love to hate it. West coast sophisticates love to hate it. But go to the campus on a pretty day and look out at the sunset over the Gothic-style Wayne County Courthouse: a view worthy of Hollywood. Allow yourself to enjoy the Pizza King or the Dairy Queen (a PROPER Dairy Queen, with glittery tiles and walk-up windows and signs marked with plastic letters). Appreciate the mid-sized, friendly, unpretentious town for what it is. It is a very pretty town, with some great, historic buildings and neat spots to discover if you’re “of a mind.”

No, not terrible at all. Very nice. YMMV, of course.

Earlham IS a caring place! My daughter is a first year who was initially unsure about the school and especially Richmond when we visited in her senior year. But after enrolling she quickly felt at home and welcomed to the community. It’s a wonderful school.
