Flying to a college

I am from St. Louis and and I have a cousin whom is attending graduate school at University of Arizona. He asked me to come down to look at colleges and look at them, since I was interested. So I told him I would.

My question is... Should I drive down there, which would be a 22hr drive. Or should I spend the money and fly down there?

Calculate how much the plane ticket would cost vs. the cost of gas and most likely staying overnight. And, do you really want to drive 22 hours?

I'd recommend flying. Check out some of the smaller, domestic airlines like Song and Independence.

$434 round trip. Gas would be about $300.

Ehh, your call but all that TIME in the car, what's that worth?

Unless there is something (colleges, relatives, sightseeing) along the way, definitely fly. Also, is that 22 hrs one-way? Don't forget that the drive home will also be 22 hrs!

It's not just gas. You'd be driving 1400 miles one-way, and 1400 miles back. A car gets a lot of wear in 2800 miles! Heck, you'll almost need to change your oil before and after you go!

22 hours safely would come out to about 3 days if you're driving alone. add in two nights for lodging and you're at the 450$ mark already. then, add in the cost of food during the trip each way as well as chalk's reccommendation of that oil change.
