Flying to US, Tight Security

Internationals, flying to US is a big headache with tighter security! Any suggestions on luggage packing?

just dont pack anything that you will get caught its simple the luggage that you check in still follow the same rules, however only carry on luggage has different rules now. So its not that big of a deal plus i got a green card so they rarely check my luggage

No liquids or gel based products like water, toothpaste etc..some airlines are also probhiting electronic devices such as MP3 players, laptops or cellphones on carry-on.

i did not hear anything about electronic devices being prohitbited by airlines that is something new but with out MP3 players, labtops many businessmen/women and many teenagers with Ipods, PSP will be ****ed but if it is for our safety and the next atternative is being blown up well couple hrs with out those eccentials wouldn't be that bad

those restrictions are mainly for international flights, not for local ones.

yay...thankgod i'm flying from NJ

Is it necessary to use TSA recognised lock? Its quite expensive....!

Yes, or they'll bust your lock if they decide to check your bagage.

The limitations on hand luggage depend on the airline, I flew with Virgin (no liquids or gels) but British Airways have banned all non-essential hand luggage.

If you're flying via London (even if you're transitting), you ain't allowed to bring ANY SORT of hand baggage - not even a book or anything.. Not sure about other destinations

That's so retarded. I'm not buying this BS. HOW is a book a security threat? Are they afraid they'll start throwing it at people? And then everyone dies? Is that it?

meh.

I don't know the reason - apparently they thing a lot of people will smuggle in small parts of an explosive device and then put it together in an aircraft toilet.. I really can't blame them for being paranoid though because if anything like that does take place, there will be hell to pay for..

I am told that I am not allowed any hand bag unless I have a transparent polythene bag. Also, no toothpaste, mouthwash or anything of that sort is allowed. I don't know how the hell am I gonna survive 2 days without brushing.
It will be a big inconvenience, indeed.

The airline will provide toothpaste & toothbrush!

Will they also provide lip balm and my moisturizer? What about perfume or body spray? bleh.

That's a slight off-topic, but where can I find a list of items permitted/prohibited to bring to the US? Because I am planning to bring lots of medicines from home and don't want anything to be confiscated.

What country? Medicine is alright as long as its not carry-on. Only very essential medication (prescribed) and insulin are allowed. I flew in from China (was visiting relatives) and I had a few boxes of eye drops and was forced to check in the baggage.

Anyway dont bring any gels or liquids unless you want to get into alot of unnecessary trouble. They check your baggage very throughly and opens up alot of them. You wont die if you dont put on perfume for a day lol. Also be careful about buying in duty free shops. If you buy liquid/gel you wont be able to carry it onto the flight.

List of allowed things - www.faa.gov

Have all importnat documents with you all the time, including I 20 with you in hand. Oh yeah, don't look alarmed / nervous - I was kinda looking like that when i got to LA because i was late and so the guard stops me and grills me and checks me like ten thousand times - aweful experince

Limited Carry-on luggage is now allowed. I am transitting via London Heathrow. I hope my second flight doesnt get cancelled. Waiting in LHR is not exciting...

Don't look worried, huh? Awesome. Because I'm sure everyone's very relaxed when they can't carry a lot of stuff on the plane, being checked 38949237 times, about to miss their flight and really tired from all the waiting?

At least lipstick is permitted now. But not gloss. pfft.
