Okay, I spent over 20 hours on my cas esssay and I submitted it but I made a retarded error in the essay...I think i delted some final stuff and didnt see this error. UGHH am i done cause of this? i know its not a good thing but will my chances be decreased now...i spent so much time on this...fml

this is what i did...

"I only recently committing to history because..."

I am not one to say that a single error should ever be grounds for immediate dismissal. Admittedly though, it does cause the “i spent so much time on this” claim to shine a little less brilliantly. To use the great cliche: I think that if you are truly passionate about Cornell, that will be evident despite the mistake. I would not count yourself out quite yet.

Dear ComeGraduation,
I was admitted EA to Boston College and am applying RD to Cornell. I made the same mistake as yours. My sentence should’ve been “that’s when my father decided to send me…” but I accidentally took out “decided”. I was freaking out to death when I found out the mistake nearly 2 weeks after I submitted my app! However, I immediately printed out a hard copy of a revised version and mailed it to the admissions office along with a note explaining the situation. Apparently, it worked out! I suggest that you do the same and I’m pretty sure the adcoms will be generous enough to replace it with the other one. Good luck with your application process!

If i send a revision wudnt it look bad on my part cause whats done is done? Its kinda like saying “damn i dont like my esay so i should send another one”

I don’t have experience but when I first read your sentence above, I didn’t even notice what the mistake was…and you had just pointed out that something was wrong. I think that the people reading your essay will probably overlook it as well, because they’re not reading it that closely, and it’s easy for the brain to fill in the missing words. no meaning is lost.
even if they did notice it, it would be silly to hold it against you…they are reasonable adults. that’s the type of error that shows evidence of revision, not the type that makes it seem like you rushed through and didn’t care.

so if it isn’t obvious: I think you should just let it be, don’t send revisions, and relax! :)

I only saw the mistake cause of how much of a grammar police type of person I am.
Call Cornell, tell them/it about your mistake, and then if Cornell wants you to send the revised version, do it. Otherwise, let bygones be bygones.

I agree with faustarp to certain extent. That’s another option you can take ComeGraduation, just letting it be.
However, if you want to send in the revision, I don’t think you’ll be looked down upon just because of that. The adcoms in BC simply replaced my new one with the old one without giving any thoughts. I don’t think the adcoms in Cornell will be any different.

Don’t worry about a single mistake. I’m sure this error won’t keep you out. You’ve already submitted so there is nothing you can do but wait until late March/early April when decisions are released! Don’t torture yourself about it. This is why after I submitted everything, I never read over my essays again for fear of finding something like this lol Don’t torture yourself.
