So my SAT boot camp just started for me...and it's intense. I've come to the realization that my self-studying of Precalculus to advance from Algebra II/Trig H to AP Calculus AB will be profoundly affected. I'm afraid that doing all these things will minimize the quality in result of each of them afterwards whereas just focusing on one will allow me to prosper significantly in that. I definitely can't quit my SAT boot camp right now because it costs ~$1800 lol and the academy wouldn't give a refund.

Should I just focus on studying the SAT and reaching my goal of 2250+ and quit self-studying Precalculus and be satisfied with being in Precal instead of AP Calc AB next year? Or should I do both?

Both, you can handle much more than what you think. Besides Precalc is nothing but Alg 2 extended, adding polars, vectors, and some other stuff.

Yeah
My counselor said, though, that I would have to do all the problems in the Precalculus textbook. No kidding; ALL of them. It’s easy but extremely long and, of course, I have to show work and all the steps for each of the problems and submit all the work done to her to review. After, I have to arrange a day later in the summer with my math teacher to take both semesters of the Precalculus final. Ugh… the tediousness of it all is really getting to me and I’m not really too sure anymore.

Wait… what sort of problems are in the precalc textbook? ALL? That’s a bit much. If you feel that Precalc will not be challenging, then do the problems. I mean, I worked through a good 3/4 of a precalc textbook in 2 days. Then again, choose your priority. the SAT, or advancing through a math class.

Which do you think would colleges most see favorably upon? And I mean Ivy League ones.

I really don’t know, I can’t predict and game which colleges would see favorably upon it. I mean, you have to go with what YOU WANT. Not what a COLLEGE WILL LIKE.

I honestly don’t think you have enough time to finish Precalc this summer. You should just focus on your SAT.

@MIT: Uh… how did you go through 3/4 of a precalc textbook in 2 days? And how long did it take you to learn alg2/precalc?

what grade are you in?

^ rising sophomore

Self-study precalculus. Why are you even in an SAT boot camp right now?

^ i want to get the SAT over with since i got a 1940 when i took it last year…going for the 2nd time this october

sophomore = precalculus = bad?

See, I’d get precalculus over with before going for the SAT. I took precalculus as a sophomore (though not self-studying) and rarely even thought about the SAT until junior year, mainly because I was focusing on the PSAT.

You have three years ahead of you. Just study precalculus and go on to Calculus AB as a sophomore. You can study for the SAT during the school year.

focus on precalc. you have plenty of time to worry about the SAT… imo

wait would you be taking calculus as a sophmore? what classes would you take your junior and senior year?

even if you take sophmore= precalc, junior=calc AB, senior=calc BC what more do you exactly want? Maybe your schoool and let you skip to BC after precalc if you really want to take BC your junior year. you get an AB subscore. Maybe go with the SAT class?

I don’t think it really matters what direction you go in. I took precalc as a sophmore. I don’t think it’s bad…I’m an rising junior.

^I think the OP can take AP Statistics her senior year.

How did I go through 3/4 of it? I had A LOT of time on my hands. And I now I can do math up until diff eqs, though by the end of the summer I’ll be there too.

Just be happy you have AP. I could be IB math SL 2 jr year, but because they don’t let upward movement based on clear math ability, I’m stuck in a precalc class.

I self studied precal in like a month at the end of 8th grade, about a year ago now, going at a slow pace, so it is definitely possible

No need to choose. I self-studied PreCal and studied for 2400 in the same summer.

^^^^ Actually I want to do Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra at a CC

^ Was it stressful
