Does anyone who has taken part in the FOCUS program at Duke mind sharing some of the advantages/disadvantages of applying? I've read what the brochures and the Duke website say, but I want to know what the actual experience was like.

What are the most popular clusters, and will make my course load a lot lighter or more difficult? Basically, would you recommend applying to it/ was it a good experience?

Note: I am very biased because I had a FANTASTIC focus experience. I did Genome. I know Genome/Global health are popular but not sure about the others.
FOCUS can be time consuming, but I found it to be totally worth it. Having professors who are at the very top of their field as a freshman in a class of 15 is well, amazing. The classes are rigorous seminars, but you can do well if you put the time in. It’s a lot of reading/writing because they are seminars. The weekly dinners I thought were great and you really get to know the faculty well.
