Anyone got email from duke focus program? My S applied RD and he got an email from focus. Any indication about admission or just information purpose?

got the same email last Friday and have the same question Would seem odd to send to 32k people if you are going to turn around and reject them a couple months later

Don’t want to dash hopes or lift spirits (whichever the case may be), but I don’t think you can read into any of these informational emails. Applicant names are all in a database and sending it to the whole database is probably easier than sending it to a smaller group (like admitted students since they haven’t completed making admissions decisions yet). I think Duke (like most schools, I would imagine) is not going to send signals on admission status by sending an informational email to some and not others. That information will only come out when admissions decions are announced (with rare exceptions for kids who are being considered for merit or athletic scholarships, for example). I think Duke just wants to give potential students time to consider the Focus Programs as an application/essay is required.

If somebody thinks I am wrong, feel free to chime in.

Just hang in there.

Thought it was odd as this something you would expect to receive after being accepted. I am sure everyone got the email. They probably should add a sentence that many other colleges do which says that this email has been sent to every applicant.

I think Duke took my advice. The latest email says it was sent to every applicant in the first sentence. I give Duke credit, they marketing to every applicant even though they will accept less 10%. I am sure they would love to get their yield over 50%.
