Focus Program

What do you think of it? I'm thinking about applying to it but the brochures told me a basic overview, as did the website. What have you heard? or to current students, what experience have you had with it?

I was kind of wondering about that as well. What do you current students suggest?

is it worth it anybody?

Which programs are you considering? I don't know about the rest, but Evolution & Humankind, Genome Revolution, and Visions of Freedom have great professors.

I was thinking Exploring the Mind...sounded interesting

Is anyone else experiencing problems trying to access the 'Apply Now' page?

I'm thinking about Exploring the Mind as well, but I don't know how well it will fit in with a pre-med curriculum....

Are we required to take all the classes/seminars under the same cluster? For example, if I choose visions of freedom, am I gonna have to take all of these classes?

<a href="http://focus.duke.edu/program/clusters/visions_of_freedom.php%5B/url%5D">http://focus.duke.edu/program/clusters/visions_of_freedom.php</a></p>

No, only two seminars.

Sunny903: I'm interested in pre-med route as well. I don't think it has to fit...just something that interests you. But I'm interested in the brain, so I think I am picking one that somewhat fits with the premed route

For CLASS of 2011 DUKIES who are applying to Focus, please check out one of the newest clusters debuting this Fall, which is based on an evolving approach to health care that is personalized, predictive, preventative & participatory. It's known as "Prospective Health Care" or "PHC" for short.

The Center for Research on Prospective Health Care at Duke spearheaded developing this cluster & we are 100% dedicated to Duke undergrads, which is why we founded the Duke undergrad PHC Club in 2005. So when you join this cluster, you have an immediate link to the Center & the Club.

Students with diverse interests are encouraged to apply. Our core courses are policy, history, psychology & immunology based.

Contact either Ziggy Yoediono, MD MBA or Max Masnick Duke '09 for further questions. Thanks!

For those of you interested in COMMUNITY SERVICE, the Prospective Health Care cluster is working with the Durham Nativity School, a middle school for underprivileged boys, and other constituents to create a partnership where Duke students work closely with the middle school students to teach, learn and collaborate on a prospective health care project.

For those of you interested in TRAVEL, the Prospective Health Care cluster is in the nascent phases of hopefully setting up a short trip to Washington DC. We are collaborating with the Office of the Chancellor Emeritus at Duke University to develop this.

Stay tuned for more updates.
