Do most freshman sign up for one of the special programs (eg text and tradition; mind, brain and behavior) a focus program or a freshman seminar?

My D went through the mailing explaining all the programs and didn't get excited about any of them. She feels that she just wants to pick her first year courses out of the catalogue.

Would she be missing a really special opportunity if she just doesn't enroll in one of these programs? Are these programs the only real way for freshman to work closely with professors? Any input would be great. Thanks

Great question Nervous 1!
My D graduates today!!, but went through the "catalogue" last night and had most of them crossed out. She said she wasn't sure if she wanted to do any of them, but said "I have to remember that WashU is different from my
high school - this will be a place full of Type A kids, each with two Type A parents. If I want to do any of these, I better sign up fast!" I had to laugh!

LOL....my S finished Friday and today is a holiday in the "Great White North". I just put on my helicopter blades about 10 minutes ago and said to my S that he should look through the package that WashU sent because, if he's interested, I'm sure that things will start to go.

Anyone doing any of the art/sci weekends?

Join the club mtldad! It's hard to get them to focus on classes for the fall when they are having so much fun as graduating seniors!

My D is going to the June 28-30 art/sci weekend.

My S is probably going to go to that one, also. It's the only weekend that works for him.

D graduated on Sunday and ever since has been going through, throwing away/recycling all of her high school "stuff". She is moving on!!

She has contacted the German department to get her # so she can take the German placement exam, and as soon as she has adequatedly rested up from the After Grad party that was held until 2 a.m. Monday morning, she will tackle the on-line hour and a half calculus placement exam.

She is in the first Art/Sci weekend June 21-23. We are heading to the "big city" on Friday to look for some "luau wear" (?!?!?)

oh gosh, skip the luau wear. or, at least don't show up dressed in it.

Thanks for the heads up melanieeek - what do we know!! The brochure said "bring luau wear" - we always do what we are told!

maybe bring a lei or something, or some sunglasses, but beyond those standard items i don't remember anyone really following the luau theme (we had the same one last summer)
