Focusing

I know there are several threads on this somewhere, but I can't find them. Anyway, what do you guys do to focus on getting an assignment done? I will eventually do it, but I will always procrastinate. What do you do to avoid procrastinating?
(Please don't just tell me to do it lol. Is there anything in particular that you do?)

Maybe I should have made the title more interesting:/ Hmm…O well, it’s too late to change it now.

Haha the title is fine. Anyways, I’m used to serious procrastinating, so this year I’m trying something different.

I did the whole change password thing with my mom (you know what I’m talking about) but I still have a blackberry, (there’s NO WAY I’m giving it to my mom!) so I have to try to avoid using it when I have hw. I put up inspirational quotes from lyrics that I like, (mostly Oasis songs) around my room, so that if I lfeel lazy, I’ll just look at the quotes and (hopefully) start doing my homework.

Also, I put up a little poster of the McGill logo, so I remember WHY I need high marks.

^Wow! That’s a good idea with the quotes. I’m doing that! Thanks for the idea:) Haha, I know what you’re talking about, I need to talk with my mom regarding that. Thanks for your help!

Sometimes, I just try to finish whatever I’m procrastinating on faster than I usually do. That way, I did what I wanted to and still made time for my work.

With every load of homework I get, I approximate the length of time it will take for me to finish. Then I subtract that from a time earlier than when I go to bed, and start then. I try to get everything else out of the way before that time, so I can concentrate.

That’s a good idea. I suppose it’s all about time management:) Thanks for the advice!

Your welx :]

Arghh, it’s so difficult for me. I procrastinate about everything. To get myself to start working I REALLY really have to get in the mood. Clear off my desk, make a music playlist (I have to have music playing), turn off my computer screen, put on comfy clothes, and tie my hair up. Then once I’ve gotten rid of the distractions I force myself to start the work, but take planned breaks every half hour or so so I don’t get annoyed and start slacking.

I’m an evil procrastinator… It ruins me. I just try to sit at my desk and force myself to focus oh and I think about Columbia… that helps.

Sometimes I just “do it” but it makes me more stressed because there’s always more to do. Its like, I just finished this set of homework I was planning to do- now I can chill and dread the next assignment.

HAHA. You sound like me :]

I need to have a clean desk and a clean room. I’ll have a music playlist on the background depending on what kind of hw I’m doing. I change into comfy clothes and put my hair up in a bun.

To get motivated, I open my planner out. I underline and put check boxes next to the “urgent” hw assignments and I feel compelled to check them all off. I also have a couple of snacks to munch on when I feel like taking a break.

I hole myself up in my room, put on some music (mostly for math), open up CC or some other site to glance at when bored, and just grind through the hw/whatever. Make sure you have a plan on what you’re going to do though. lololol.
