Folder Pulled for RD Admission!

My son's online status says his folder was pulled on 1/11/08 for committee review. He's applied for RD and his counselor thinks that CMU is a safety school for him (I'm not ready to believe that, but he is a strong applicant). Do they pulled strong applicants early? Any chance we'll hear before April? Any other RD candidates pulled?

Thanks,
Spaz Mom

(Stats, for those who want to know, SAT: 800M, 740V, 690W. GPA: 4.0 unweighted, hardest possible course set. Recs: Very good. Essays: gut-busting funny insight into the soul of a young geek. EC's: OK, not great (founded and led some clubs, hasn't solved world hunger). Special: accomplished this in the midst of a very difficult family situation (life-threatening illness of only sibling - who is OK now, thanks!)). I'm not sure if this makes him a shoe-in or not, but no mom could be more proud.

I have no basis to make this statement.

All the applicants are strong. Nothing is safe these days. Go and enjoy the last term of HS and forget college until April.

DS had strong stuff, similar stats as yours, and after meeting with some of his classmates on his CMU graduation, I’d say, DS was damn lucky.

Great advice! I’ve been a cool cat the last 11 years of school, never pushed or stressed much. But sometime during the fall I became a complete spaz. In my heart, I know he’ll end up exactly where he’s supposed to be. But the suspense is killing me! Fortunately, I’m traveling a lot for work so I’m not here to torture him too much.

GR

I wouldn’t say a shoe-in, but a good match certainly. I have no idea whether they look at strong candidates early, my son heard from CMU pretty much when everyone else heard - not one second earlier. I think it was March 26 last year - at least that’s the date of the Accepted students thread.

It really depends what school(s) within CMU he’s applying to.

In fact if he’s applying to the School of Computer Science I’d consider that a reach for almost anyone (I think 18% acceptance rate last year). The business school Tepper is also very selective; I certainly wouldn’t call that a safety when 14% last year were accepted. For other schools, I’d call them a match or even safe match…would be surprised if he didn’t get into them actually.

I haven’t heard CMU reviewing strong applicants first…there’s no evidence for that. They get lots of strong applications like your son’s.

Good luck, don’t spaz.

I am also an RD applicant and it said my folder was pulled. I consider carnegie a safer school for me, however with 2 early decision plans it must be MUCH harder to get in RD.

Anyway, I do not think our folders being pulled earlier means necessarily anything, although an admission counselor did tell my brother that i was “red flagged.”

im a RD applicant as well and ten days ago it said folder pulled for commitee read, and today it says application complete. does that just mean that they have everything or they already made a decision??

How do you check ur CM status? Did you guys get a letter or email with your Id number? All I got was a list of alumni in my area :/

it was in an envelope along with finaid information and other stuff

uh oh, did you get it a long time ago?

I applied Dec 31 and received mine last week.

Feeling less wound-up about it - good to know we just have to wait rather than wondering if it is coming any day. The worst part about traveling so much is that I probably won’t be there when he hears about CMU and others. This will be the first big event I’ve missed for either kid. Though I’ve made it clear at work that I reserve the right to get on a plane without warning and get myself home! 3 flights a day, 1.5 hour flight - won’t miss it by much.

(2331clk, he’s applying for dual major or degree in CIT & CFA)

For a while, my application said that it was being reviewed. Then a few days ago it said my application was complete. Now when i try to log in, it says “The application you are attempting to access is not currently available.” I treid to login several times throughout the entire day.

Does this mean anything other than a website glitch??

same with me ^^

^^^ same here, mine said “folder pulled…”

seanc - I just checked mine after reading your post and it’s also unavailable. I also think it’s a glitch, their website can get pretty weird sometimes (no online financial aid app yet, multiple items received which were not sent, etc.)

A large part of the HUB’s system went down yesterday and won’t be back up until (hopefully) tomorrow - current students can’t add/drop courses or view their accounts at the moment. I’d guess that’s why you’re having problems, cantaloupe.

mine says that the folder was pulled 1/11, and that the admission score report form was received 1/15, but it does not say that they received my teacher recs. does anybody else see that the teacher recommendations have been received when they view their application status?

my admission score form was received, but they have all my teacher recs; in fact they list that they have 4 recs when i only sent out 3

maybe that means that they are actually reviewing you at the present time?
