The CoE deferral letter stated, almost verbatim, that the information I gave them was more than sufficient for a final decision, and the most successful candidates give them only what they require. Should I still write a follow up letter confirming my interest, as I would other schools, or would this serve as a detriment to my application? I lack demonstrated interest, which I know they take into account. I also have an extra independent project related to my major that I feel is substantial enough it could be worth mentioning.
Can you post that correspondence?
Are you referring to the language of the deferral letter or the follow up information?
I remember this topic coming up in last year’s cycle. I believe the consensus was that a letter of continuing interest to UMich was fine. Especially in the above case where there is extra information not included in the original app. It definitely won’t be a detriment either way. Our son was deferred in EA, sent his LOCI directly to his regional AO who responded back with a thank-you email. He was accepted in regular round. Treat UMich as you would any other college deferment.
Thanks Quantjock!
