Thank you all for the information posted on the subject. It does appear the Summer Bridge program is for those that might need a little extra help. My son was invited to participate in the program yet was also a regents candidate so very strong academics (4.7 GPA, all 5's on AP exams). Any ideas on why he would also be invited (not required) to attend? Do you think that it might be worthwhile to attend anyway for the social aspects of the program? I saw the course list offered and it appears that nothing really seems appropriate, but as a supportive parent I would like to provide the best opportunity for my son.

They usually send that to low income and underrepresented students. It has nothing to do with his academics if that is something you’re worried about. I’d say either go hard and do Freshmen Edge or just stay home and enjoy his last summer.

Assuming that the 5 scores include some of the more rigorous AP tests (e.g. English, calculus), it would seem that Summer Bridge offerings would not be all that useful, and Freshman Edge (normal summer session courses) may be more appropriate if he wants to get an early start at Berkeley this summer.
