Following schools on social media?

I have had a Facebook account since middle school with my personal email address. I never post questionable content on it (I rarely post anything at all); it simply has my name, my friends, some photos, etc. However, as a senior in high school, I would like to start following/friending universities I’m applying to in order to show interest and receive updates from them. I use a separate email address I created just for university purposes to email/contact them. Should I use my regular personal Facebook account to friend them? Will schools think it’s weird? Should I make an account with my “college” email address? I’m worried THAT might look weird because there wouldn’t be any activity on it apart from following schools. Also, I don’t have a Twitter account, but I would really like to make one so I can follow schools as well. Finally, will colleges be able to see what other schools I’m following?

I’m sorry if this post is so confusing! Thanks so much for all your help!

The chances of admissions officers taking a personal interest in your social media at all if there isn’t any questionable content is also very, very low. You’re over thinking it. Just keep your nose clean and you’ll be fine.

Ok, thank you! I do tend to overthink things like this…

While colleges rarely check your social media unless something questionable comes up, I would still follow them on FB/twitter just to get updates, and also to help you see what life at the school is like.

If UC Berkeley looked at my social media and found that it was at the bottom of my college list for a while, I’m not sure that they would have admitted me :stuck_out_tongue: In hindsight I should have been slightly more careful.

I am creating a Twitter account as we speak  Thank you all for your advice!

Also @anxiousenior1 congrats on your acceptance! How’s it going?

Very well, thanks. So far a great semester.

Glad to hear!
