I had an interview today and I usually follow up with interviewers to thank them for their time. But, the interviewer I had today doesn’t have her email listed on the website. Do I just not follow up with her?
Also, the interviewer asked me what other schools I’m applying for. I haven’t been asked that question in my previous interviews and was wondering what’s the proper way to respond to this question.
It’s strange that the interviewer does not have their email listed on the school website. Is it an alumni? They normally leave out their email to answer any questions the applicant may have (and to receive thank you notes, of course).
I was also asked about “other schools I’m applying to” in a couple of my interviews. The interviewer is probably just trying to ask for your commitment to their school. I did not bring up any rival schools, because I heard that some interviewers, especially alumni, go absolutely crazy after hearing that. Also, after I listed out my schools, I followed up by saying that “school x is my top choice because…”, kind of just shows my fit and commitment toward the school.
The interviewer is listed only as an “admissions interviewer” on the website. In her bio, it says she is an alumni but is also working with school-- so I’m not really sure. But since you mentioned it, she may just be an alumni interviewer. I’ve tried searching for her email but I can’t find it. I really don’t know what to do because I can’t reach out to her.
Good thing I’m not applying to any rival schools :))) But, thank you for the advice!!!
As I always post: There is absolutely no reason in the world for any school to know which other schools you are applying to. Why? It is totally irrelevant data mining and is, IMO, a rude question. You can follow ski’s advice, although I think the most appropriate response would be, “Which other candidates are you considering for admission?”
Probably a strategy best served for college interviews - if then. While I agree that the question should not be asked, that response, which I get is tongue-in-cheek, will seem bratty coming from a 13-yearold.
