We toured and ds interviewed at his first school yesterday. This afternoon, the director of admissions called to thank us for coming. Is this a standard approach with smaller schools? I was genuinely caught off guard, as I haven't heard of this practice. The message we picked up, intentional or not, is that they really liked ds. (Now I feel like Sally Field, or her mom, I suppose)

Feel free to burst my bubble if this is a common thing. I really don't know anything about the whole bs admissions process.

I hope I don’t burst your bubble, but they really do like most of the kids they interview. It’s sort of a self-selecting thing, in that very few kids who apply who are not well qualified. The big chore for admissions at these schools is to choose admits from a pool of more highly qualified candidates than they can accept.

Notes are pretty standard -I think the schools want to increase the chances that you will follow through with an application - remember the # of apps determines their acceptance rate, so the more the better. But I have to say that I rarely if ever have heard of a phone call. Couple that with the fact that it was from the DOA and I would have to say they are sending you a strong message. Nice Job Rellielou!!!

Thanks all, for the feedback. I am not betting on anything. It is nice to know that this may be a sign of interest. The school is not HADES and I have no idea what the GLADCHEMMS are, but it does have decent stats and appeared to us to be a good fit for ds. As I said though, this is our first visit, and we’ll have to wait and see what develops.

Madaket, on a totally unrelated note, do you actually live on Nantucket? My family spent a wonderful week there when our family was bit smaller. Many happy memories associated with your name.
