Our daughter is enrolled to attend Binghamton in the fall. She has a severe allergy to peanuts and nuts. On our visit to the school a couple of weeks ago we had some concerns over the way the food was displayed in a couple of dining halls. We are looking for feedback from anyone who may have the same concerns about allergies to put us at ease. Any thoughts, experiences or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

MikeAB: I suggest you contact dining services, and possibility disability services (not sure which department at Binghamton will address this)…we are visiting this week (d is a junior) and will have to address this as well (gluten-free)…if I find out who the contact person is, I’ll send you a PM…but a phone call from you should work…

Thank you for the reply. We did speak to the person in charge of dining. They told us that they would accommodate our daughter if she had concerns about cross contamination. We are looking for some real life experiences that someone might have had at the school. Thank you again and good luck!!

^^hmmm…we know alot of kids there now; I’ll let you know what we find out as well…

Actually, I have severe peanut and nut allergies as well! (small world :])

Anyway, my parents and I met with Alexa Schmidt, the nutritionist at Binghamton after the Admitted Students Day events a few weeks ago. She was very accommodating. She said that if I decided to come to Binghamton, we would sit down sometime before the fall and discuss what I liked to eat, setting up some sort of rotation between my favorite meals throughout the week. I don’t remember exactly, but I think she said to call about a half hour ahead before the meal and the chef would fix up my meal with clean utensils and allergen-free ingredients.

So, it seemed like it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Maybe just contact Alexa before your daughter actually attends Binghamton.
