I hear the food at Cornell's dinings halls is awesome, and it has been reinforced with the brochure in my admissions' packet. They must know that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. :)

And about dorms...I'm at a loss about which dorms are good...the brochures didn't offer to much abotu the dorms. Which ones are better than others and which have the best social interaction and people and stuff like that...

HAHA SERIOUSLY! On every college visit I was so excited about the food situations. The variety and quality is amazing. I havn't gotten to eat at Cornell yet tho, but that will change soon enough!

It sounds cool, but for the meal plans...everything except for "Golden Bear" is not three meals a day. We actually have to cook in college? O_O (!)

Out of curiosity, when Cornell figures your room and board, which meal plan do they use?

How close are they in relation to where you attend class?
How close are they in relation to getting food?
How big a factor are the themes?
Which dorms are nicer/newer?
Which ones have the friendlist, most social people?

Cornell calculates your cost of attendance based in a 14 meal per week plan. Despite what anyone may tell you, your housing assignment is completey random no matter what you check or doing check on the application (I should know b/c I used to work in that office). Court and Mews are the newest dorms but whatever you get you get shouldn't be that bad.

Are you serious about housing? That doesn't seem reasonable because if someone says they don't wanna be housed with a smoker and they do get housed with one that would be a problem. Same with studying habits, alcohol, etc...dayam

How close are they in relation to where you attend class? -- Balch is probably the closest, but the differences are negligible (except maybe for some program houses).
How close are they in relation to getting food? -- Donlon's the closest to RPU, a fact for which I am very thankful. It's like a 20 second walk.
How big a factor are the themes? -- I'm really not too familiar with the program houses, if that's what you're talking about.
Which dorms are nicer/newer? -- Court and Mews are the newer ones.
Which ones have the friendlist, most social people? -- That'd change every year, wouldn't it? They're freshmen only, so there'll be a completely new batch by the time you get there.

I'll be a Junior at Cornell in the fall... a word of caution...

No point on North Campus is more than a 15-20 minute walk from any other point on Central Campus

I went from 14 meals, to 10 meals, to 7 meals per week over Freshman year alone. They give you more than you need. The food's awesome, but I've seen its effects on too many of my friends.

Rain or shine, winter or spring - WALK TO CLASS! That extra 40 minutes of walking each day will de-stress you and believe it or not, burn an extra 300 calories off your gut.

ehg6, I'm curious, with 7 meals per week, what do you do/where do you go for the other 14 meals?

Those meals are only for the dining halls (Robert Purcell, North Star, etc...). There are a TON of other restaurants around campus that are a la carte. So you go to those restaurants, to off-campus restaurants, or cook yourself.

Ok so from what I've heard Court and Mews are the quieter dorms, but how quiet are they? I don't want my dorm to have parties all the time 'cause I do need to study, but I don't want it to be a dorm full of people who do nothing but study.

u can study in the libraries. olin, uris, etc. its quiet there.

At...Williams I think it was, they had this bunk bed type of things where you climb up a ladder and there's this place where you can just bundle up and study (in the library). It is such a good idea and we should have Cornell adopt it lol (hopefully not too many really tired Cornellians would fall asleep in them haha)
