How is the food at Cornell? Are there many options and different types? Where are the best cafeterias?

i think cornell or ithaca was ranked 1 or 2 in nations best food. not sure.

West Campus Dining Halls were ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Based on the general consensus people tell me, the food at North Campus will get sickening/boring pretty fast.
Collegetown has very nice food for people with various amount of cash to spend and different cultural tastes.
Downtown Ithaca has a variety of food like collegetown.

Food at Cornell is great.

I disagree with playhacker. North, West, and Central all have food that I find incredible and certainly not boring. However, this is down to personal taste. For instance, I despise the Central Campus all you can eat dining (Oakenshields) but I know of others that don’t mind it.

Furthermore, the dining halls usually have things about once every two/three weeks there’s a special event. Usually cost one meal swipe for an all-you-can-eat setup. If you keep your eyes open, these opportunities present themselves. This semester I went to an Indian food event on West Campus during Divali, an Asian food event on North, a assorted themed / medieval-themed event on North, and a Thanksgiving feast on Central campus.

For the OP:
Freshmen and (some) sophomores must get a meal plan, which specifies a number of meal points “swipes” per week and Big Red Bucks (BRBs) per semester.
There are two main types of dining on campus, which are all-you-can-eat style buffets, which are mainly paid for by your meal swipes. If you run out of meal swipes that particular week, you can also pay for it using cash, credit card, or BRBs. There are two dining halls on North, one on Central, and five on West.
There are also “ala-carte” places (eg: grab a sandwich, soda, and drink) that you pay per item usually in BRBs, but they also accept cash and credit card. There are some that only serve drinks and snacks, but most serve warm food as well. There’s just about everywhere on Central campus, including the main “quads” of each college, as well as on both North and West.

So yes, to answer your question, there are plenty of options and types (and this isn’t even counting off-campus stores such as in Collegetown).

If you’re visiting here, I suggest trying the Ivy Room (Willard Straight Hall, Central), Taverna Banfi or Terrace Restaurant (Statler Hotel, Central; the former is run by Hotel School students), Bear Necessities (Purcell Community Center, North), or Any of the dining halls on North (Appel, Purcell) or West (Rose, Keeton, etc.).

We are indeed ranked number one in the nation (depending on the ranking, of course), and both the food service workers and the students take this very seriously. I’ve eaten food at quite a number of colleges over several years, and the only places that can come close are UCLA, and to a lesser degree, certain places at Stanford, Harvard, and Claremont Colleges.

In terms of price, food here is probably more expensive than what you eat at home, but cheaper than most other campuses that I have experience with.

How does Cornell’s food rank among other schools?

@Jsim0808 Thank you for that thoughtful and thorough answer. Knowing that the college i will be attending for the next four years has good dining is extremely encouraging. Cant wait for next fall :D

Here’s the rundown:

North Campus: 2 places to eat, Appel and RPCC (Serve the same crap everyday with one area changing daily…boring as balls!)

West Campus: If you live here, your on the meal plan so unlimited meals for access to 5-6 dining halls of your choice. Food changes EVERY DAY and every Wed. is a special house dinner (think gourmet like…kind of…just fancier food). Food is good.

Central Campus: Oakenshields (dining hall, sucks)

The best BRB places to eat are Trillium, Cascadella or whatever its called in WSH. Ivy Room is good too. You can get Coffee many places though.

Collegetown: Has College Town Bagels…nuff said.

Got a car? Go to the commons…

campusfood.com

If you don’t finish using the meal ticket or BRB, can you transfer them for next semester?

PS. Super excited to attend Cornell now >w< loves and is constantly eating xD

The best BRB places to eat are Trillium, Cascadella or whatever its called in WSH. Ivy Room is good too. You can get Coffee many places though

terrace, macs, and atrium cafe are all great and on par with the 3 you mentioned imo

also extra brbs transfer from fall to spring but not from spring to fall
