Any SUNY fredonia students or parents here? I have a food question.

ME ME ME!!!! Fredonia was just nominated along with 31 other schools as PETA's most friendly campuses for vegetarians.

What is your question?

(BTW, my D is a music student as well)

Well, my D was there last summer for a choral program. She hated the food I told her that the summer cafeteria (near the dorms)which was the only one open for the session, may not be indicative of the rest of the food at the school. I know this is a petty reason to consider or not consider a school but she is not very picky with food and says she gets sick thinking about the food there. Is the food better in the other cafeterias?

We were there for summer orientation during that same choral program your D was at. The Cranston Marche is the cafeteria you are talking about I think, in the University Commons over Starbucks?. I ate there and really loved the food, so did my D. On Parents weekend we at at the Erie Dining hall, which was OK, more like a normal cafeteria you would find in a cafeteria. Then they have recently opened the Williams Center since I was there, they have subs, sushi, pizza, etc. My D likes the sushi but says it is WAY overpriced. Sometimes one meal costs her a meal on her Fred card plus $$ on her declining account.

That all said, she says the food has gone downhill a lot since the beginning of school. She has reported steak nights, chuck burger day is very good she says, but on the weekends they only serve pretty much the same things for breakfasts every time (no lunch served on weekends) and the hours of the cafeterias change randomly. She said she thinks they are trying to force kids to eat at the more expensive Williams center. She is going to go down to the 10 meal a week plan next semester.

I guess a lot depends on your personal preferences. She says all the vegetarian meals have been pretty good, loves the mashed potatoes in the Erie dining hall, and the stir fry but has not yet tried the Ramen noodle station. She is a real comfort food eater.

What is your D more likely to enjoy? I can ask my D about anything specific. Maybe the food for NYSSSA was subpar bc of the low price of the whole program? So they were contracted to only do certain things?

I have no complaints. It's MUCH better than most of my friends schools.

Good to know eriniggy!! How do you feel about the new Williams Center food court? My D feels that the prices are a little too high and it is confusing as often it will cost her a meal + declining dollars. But she does love the sushi there!!

My S there opted to do no meal plan ( he is a vegetarian ) and got into a dorm with a kitchen . Saved $1800 meal plan , plus , he likes taking the town bus from campus to do his groceries ( about $30-40 a week ) .
Except for the food , he really likes Fredonia . SUNY BUFFALO has great meal options and various ethnic offerings .

Haha, dredging this one up again bc I should report that before Christmas the Erie Dining Hall served up prime rib and a cheesecake bar for the Holidays. I was pretty jealous! My D is going down to a 10 meal a week plan this semester, mainly bc she needs to stop eating junk. There ARE healthy options at Fredonia she just chooses not to take them. We both decided that by eating breakfast in her room and keeping some soups and Lean Cuisines in her room she would be better off overall. At least I hope so.
