For deep dish pizza – much overrated, says I – there’s a Giordano’s at 53rd and Blackstone in Hyde Park. People who like it seem to like Gino’s East, which is a couple blocks from the Chicago Red Line stop.

Near the Hilton, I love Mercat, which is in the Blackstone Hotel a block away (Catalan tapas). We also had a decent dinner at Opera (fancy Chinese).

Chicago is full of great restaurants, none of which are in Hyde Park.

Noodles, Medici on 57th. Harold’s Chicken, Leona’s, Cedars on 53rd. Potbelly beside Walgreens on 53rd close to the Metra. Snail. Thai 55 is horrible. McDonald’s is my favorite though. Sorry Hyde Park, I really have no taste when it comes to food.

Calypso in general is amazing. I’m also a fan of The Nile at 55th and Cornell.

Hyde Park restaurants are really underrated for no reason. They offer great food at reasonable prices, which is a combination that’s difficult to find in fancier neighborhoods.

Thanks for the suggestions. We ended up eating pizza the first night at Gino’s East, which I believe was mentioned on another food thread. The second night I had dinner with other Moms at the hotel pub. It was a long day and we wanted easy and fast, but I’m dying to try JHS’s suggestion! I love tapas.
