what are the top schools to look at for food science major?

NRC graduate rankings:

[2010 Ranking of Food Science Graduate Schools — PhDs.org Graduate School Guide](http://graduate-school.phds.org/rankings/food-science/rank/__M_____________________________________________________________U)

ooh thanks but what about for undergraduate programs?

There is no similar ranking for undergrad programs. While the grad rankings don’t give you a good indication of undergrad teaching quality, they do point to programs that likely have qualified faculty, program requirements, facilities, etc. I don’t know if there is a great deal of difference at the undergrad level amongst the several top programs, so examine them carefully to see if any particular features of the programs tip any of them into your preferred column. Otherwise, choose on the basis of the school that is the best fit for you in terms of selectivity, finances, location, size, etc. For a field that is offered at most land-grant universities, the land grant public university in your own state probably is the best bet in terms of finances.
