Food.

I've been searching around for colleges and read this horrendous thread about the Val(?) at Amherst, and how the food sucks, and people arguing about whether the food at Amherst does suck or doesn't.

I've lived in three countries and I eat anything and everything, but I can't go four years on some crammy cafeteria buffet alone. And I love Asian food. I'm Korean, and need Korean food from time to time to keep me awake. A good dose of something seriously spicy and free of butter and cheese. A college near a city with a Chinatown would be awesome.

NYU and UCLA are obvious, but any info about colleges in New England would be nice. I'm considering Stanford (Palo Alto I hear is too expensive with everything, and has too much of that eco-friendly-grow-your-own-vegies thing), Amherst, Williams, UPenn, NYU, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor is great I know, I've lived there, tons of great food places), Tufts, Vassar and Brown.

I don't want info on admissions, I've posted and searched threads about that separately. I want any and all inside information on the food. General survival tips for food lovers living in dorms or whatever, any advice.

Well, I’ll tell you that my son is at Bowdoin. He’s a foody and comes from a family of great cooks and bakers. He is extremely happy with the food…so happy that it’s making me, as his mom, a little jealous. Could my son really like his college cooking better than his mom’s cooking?! I even offered to send him some baked goods and he declined because he said that, in addition to the cafeteria’s offerings, there is a fully equipped kitchen in his dorm and girls are always baking cookies and brownies.

So, may a mother’s heartbreak be good information to you: Apparently the food at Bowdoin is excellent.

The food we had in the dining hall at Clark was seriously excellent.

As far as local options, I would look at some large/small cities: Boston, Portland, Seattle, even here in Dayton they have good Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Indian.

Goto Santa Clara University. Its basically on El Camino Real and only one mile from “Korean Town” on El Camino Real in Santa Clara, where you can have Korean Food all day within walking distance. Great FA package for qualified students too!

You will have access to Korean food anywhere in San Franciso as well.

thanks everyone:)

Woo Michigan!!

Most colleges have a variety of food choices to keep kids happy ! Stick with the coasts and you should be happy !
