How is the cafeteria food at Davis? If possible, can anyone give me an example of the food on a typical day. Also some of the non-cafeteria food places on campus? I just checked out Irvine (the other school im looking into) and their food was disapointing. As you probably notice, im down the wire in my decision between Irvine and Davis so even differences in small things like cafeteria food are important right now. Thanx

I dunno about other ones, but the Segundo dining commons looked really good. Both the food and the setting, I mean. Can't remember much else, though, sorry.

EDIT: I found an article about it: http://www.dateline.ucdavis.edu/dl_detail.lasso?id=8491

I remember! Alright, so, there is a place called the "Silo" where there are a bunch of commerical food services such as a McDonalds or pizza. There are a lot of things to eat there. As for dorm foods, I ate one lunch meal at Tercero (each meal is different). They serve very basic stuff. The tour guide says they change the menu every month or something (I forgot, maybe more frequently). I decided to just eat from one section, the grill. It's called the Tomato Grill I think. They served garlic fries, cheeseburgers, and grilled cheese. They have many other stations like the salad bar (which I hear is always good), the bistro, and the dessert section. I think the DC at Tercero has about six stations? I don't know the name for all of them. It's an all you can eat buffet style dining common. I paid $7.50 to enter. It feels like basic home food, but I can definitely handle it for awhile. They also have all the soda you want o_o (a little unhealthy).

When you are done, you put these trays on a spinning rack. You only see the front of the rack, but the trays spin to the other side where the workers clean each tray.

Any more specific questions? I didn't cover everything since it's a little...tedious.

The DC food is ok.. the more you eat of it, the sicker you get of it because it's the same foods over & over. Everyday there is pizza, hamburgers, a salad bar. Then they have 'main dishes' that vary day to day. There is also a vegan section.
On campus there are two other main places to grab food.. the Silo and the MU. The Silo has a Carls Jr, Pizza hut, Taco Bell, Starbucks, and a crepe place. The MU has an asian noodle type place, a burrito place, pizza corner, and some other stuff. The MU is generally much more food for the buck than the Silo.

DUDE ok the food at davis is BOMB. my friends and i ate there during welcome day and i was really really impressed. the cafeteria itself is a really nice building and we didn't even see all they had to offer because there was just too much to choose from. i had a slice of veggie pizza and some awesome asian noodle thing. we ate in segundo if that matters... but yea now that i am going there for sure i'm really excited that the food will be beyond good.

Ooh, this page has pictures of the Segundo DC: http://daviswiki.org/Segundo_Dining_Commons

There are also lots of places to eat right off campus that are very reasonably priced. If you like chinese food, Hunan restaurant (a couple of blocks from campus in downtown Davis, has one of the best lunch deals in town with LOTS to eat for about $5.

i ate at the segundo dining commons and was kinda disappointed. It seemed like a lot of the counters inside were closed down. I ate a bunch of pizza, had some salad, and drank powerade and some nasty fruit drink... i dont think i ate my $7.50 worth of food.

the mexican food in downtown davis was awesome, though.

im a pretty healthy eater low fat high protein complex carbs u know. Is the cafeteria food healthy

Eh...not entirely... Sorry =. There is a salad bar though?

Actually, you can easily eat low-carb at Davis (my son likes to workout and eat lower carb and said he found plenty to eat.). No matter what's on the menu, they always have fresh grilled chicken breast and meat, and there is an extensive salad bar.

The student run Coffee House on campus carries a wide variety of locally grown and organic vegetables, which they use in tasty made from scratch soups and main dishes. The coffee house is not part of the dining commons, but is located near the quad. Prices are very reasonable and it is a very popular spot. If you find you like the food better at the coffee house, just sign up for a meal plan with fewer meals at the dining commons, and eat some meals at the coffee house.
