Food

How is the food on campus the, meal plan food etc, and how close are supermarkets since we arent allowed to have cars first semester??

The meal plan food is all right. The North Campus Diner has a lot of places to choose from. I personally love the Grill--chicken and steak quesadillas (with a variety of toppings), grilled cheese (with bacon, ham, or tomatoes by order), and Philly cheesesteaks all made to order. They also have the typical burgers, chicken sandwiches (grilled or fried), french fries, chicken tenders, etc. There a pizza/pasta place--I find the pizza disgusting, but some people like it (the Sicilian pizza is all right)--their meatball subs and pasta isn't bad at all though. There's a cold/cut sandwich and wrap place, a hot sandwich/hot dog place, a vegan place, a rotisserie chicken place (with the usual sides), a "Global Gourmet" that serves a variety of things, and Blue Plate, which serves a "value meal" that varies by the day. There's also a cookie/cake/muffin/bagel place, a fruit stand, ice cream/frozen yogurt, a cereal stand, and a salad/soup bar. Fountain drinks too. It's really not bad. South Campus pretty much has the same thing, except they also have The Jalepeno Grill--which is kind of like Chipotle.

Stamp Student Union has a coffee bar that takes Terp Bucks, and a typical food court (Taco Bell, Sbarro, etc.) There is a deli place that does take Terp Bucks too. There's a food co-op too. The CRC has a smoothie place that is to die for.

There's also the shops at Maryland, the main ones are the Union Shop, InCon, and Commons Shop. You can do most of your grocery shopping between the the incon and commons shop (they're both pretty far away from Denton Community though, so it's best to combine walking back from class with shopping for food). Anyway, there's also a large Target (that I think has a grocery section) at PG plaza metro, or via the Towers shuttle bus. Real easy to get to. I don't exactly know where Giant is, but there's one of those too nearby.

If you're Jewish go on a Hillel meal plan and eat all their meals there.
Most of my Jewish friends only go to Hillel on Friday night for Shabbat dinner (sometimes for lunch when it's convenient), but they say the food isn't too great.

india-- you are allowed to have cars first semester if you want. it depends how many upperclassmen request parking permits. but you can't really buy groceries to keep in your dorm because there aren't kitchens. most likely you'll want to buy the occasional carton of milk/box of cereal/bag of chips, and for that the on-campus convenience stores are great.

sounds good

are you permitted to have refrigerators and microwaves in your dorm room?

refrigerators yes, microwaves no. There are microwaves in floor lounges in the high rises, and in the hallways of the non-high rises.

Wow that really sucks. I'm into bodybuilding and looks like Im going to gain the freshman 15 of FAT. Are there ovens or ways to cook eggs, chicken, brown rice stuff like that?

can we have rice cookers cause id rather not live off of the meal plan

ROFL at india2007.

You technically can't, but go ahead b/c they won't notice/your RA won't care. I have a friend with an expresso machine and one with an A/C unit.

sounds good
