Food

How's the food at Bing?

The food is honestly not bad, but I wouldn't call it good, either. The company is Sodexo, very popular and almost at every college. The good thing is that there is always a variety of food. You can get salads, sandwiches, hot food, pasta, Asian, food from the grill, etc. There are also "Nite Owls" that serve fries, burgers, ice cream, and all sorts of snacks and drinks. There is one in every community except Newing, usually open from 7pm- 1am Sunday-Thursday. Binghamton also has a food court with a Taco Bell, Sbarro, Asian place, Pasta place, Freshens smoothies, and a sub place. The food at the Food Court is a bit more expensive but I would recommend going here every once in a while.

When I visited, I found it was pretty typical college fare. I stayed for a weekend because I have a few friends at Bing, and I had the chance to eat in three of the dining halls. Dickinson and Hinman were both pretty decent. Appalachian (the dining hall for the Mountainview community) is the newest, and I thought it was better than the others. I didn't try the food court, but my friends up there say it's a nice change once in a while.

Thanks, any other word on the food there?

All the dining halls are more or less the same, there is
the grill
the salad/fruit bar
deli line
hot food
make your own waffles
ice cream

CIW has a basa/quesadilla/burritto station as well as an international station with varies from pastas to chinese food to weird wraps.
Hinman has an international line too for pastas and pancakes, etc
MTView has a Chinese station and person who tosses salads for you
Newing has an international station for pastas and omelettes, etc

Um yup there's night owls for late night snacking/when you make it to the DH too late. they're over priced, but get the job done. CIW has milkshakes, MTV has quesadillas, Hinman has all of the above

New Union/Food court/minimall... all the same, located in the new union. my favorite is taco bell and showtime, which is pasta made right in front of you! they also deliver, depending on driver availibility.

any other questions?=)

emm how much is one meal?
or like how much will you usually spend on food each month??

it really varies. the prices are deflated because... well i dk why but at the dh

everything is rel cheap.
a sandwhich is about 3 bucks
omlettes too
salad bars come out to be about 4, obviously depending...
you see you weigh everything so it depends on your portions.

it's all hard to gage, but don't worry, it won't kill ya!

bump…

Any updates to this? differences between the food/ offerings in the various dining halls?
Any word about the future new Newing dining hall ?

You can view the menu here. [Welcome, Dining Services, Binghamton University](http://www.budining.com/index.php?p=apr2k11) It also shows what is only available at certain dining halls.

The Hinman nite owl is open later than the others on the weekends. (3AM). Overall each dining hall is pretty similar, there’s just certain stations that are only available at certain dining halls. For example, Hinman is the only one with a vegan station and CIW is the only one with a tex mex station.

As far as Nite Owls go, both Hinman and CIW are open on the weekend (Mountainview is not). Hinman is open later and has more packaged food, but CIW has a ton of hot, freshly made food as well as ice cream/milkshakes. Also, the food at the Nite Owls are retail pricing (not the wholesale cost you get at the regular dining halls- and some things may be inflated compared to buying them at a local store) so paying with your card or with cash won’t matter.
