Foot problems reported

Got son’s letter today. He said he woke up BEFORE revelrie (on his 18th birthday) and told himself, “this is going to be a good day”. The positive attitude was quickly altered when he fell out of bed turned the lights on and discovered his feet were numb, bleeding and covered in boils. It’s called “Jungle Rot” and is very painful. He got sent to the clinic and caught some sleep waiting for the doctor. He said he has to walk around barefoot for 10 days. To top all of that, they did a surprise SAMI. He said they trashed his room and he had to stand at attention for an hour. After rereading the letter, it sounds like he had to stand on his boil covered feet.
So much for a “good day”!

Mom

So sorry to here your sons foot problems. i heard that they had a temporary medical sqadron for Basics who have medical issues. Was he moved to that SQ or is in still in his SQ? I am sure he will recover quickly. He is in my prayers.

momof3boyz...that is not something I would have ever imagined in a million years. What a terrible thing to happen this summer. How does one function at BCT barefooot? Hoepfully, he will quickly heal and never have to go through this again. My thoughts and prayers are with your son and your family.

Thanks for your prayers. They are always welcomed anytime. He must be doing betterafter I saw his photos. He had his boots on anyway. The problem started 7/8 and he had boots on 7/13. It sounds like a quick recovery. I can't wait to hear his voice! There is less than 40 hours of waiting. :D

I just started working at nordstrom, and my feet are soooo sore. The sale started today and it was very busy... 9 hours later, my feet are not looking forward to tomorrow :)

Basics/cadets who want to make it are very resilient. ;) Glad to hear he is doing better.

Taffy, if you're going to go to the Academy, be prepared for worse. In BCT, during the vast majority of the day, sitting down is a privilege you don't have. :)
