Football Tickets

My daughter got an e-mail saying that she can purchase her season tickets for football and form her group. The deadline is July 23rd. She is out of town until tomorrow. How much time does she have, realistically, to get her group together? If she doesn't signup until this weekend is that going to be a problem?

Are those worth it? Was thinking about buying.

yes. Can always sell

If she doesn’t get them this weekend she should be fine. The priority deadline of July 23rd is including groups. If one person in the group buys their tickets now and establishes the group it will save her time later.

Denu - if you like football and attending the games, then they are absolutely worth it. It’s better than standing in line for the ticket lottery with the basic LASP, and like katy said you can always sell the tickets if you don’t want to go to the game. This year, the A&M game is at home on Thanksgiving, and for a lot of people that alone is a reason to get it - next year it will be in College Station and it’s usually harder to get tickets for that.

Can someone explain the process of football tickets and how to obtain them? I’ve never attended a game (I know, it’s a shame) and this year i’m interested in routinely attending them. I wouldn’t mind buying the package, I just have no experience in the process of buying the package and then literally acquiring the tickets and going to the gate. Any help would be appreciated!

You have to buy the LASP first - Longhorn All-Sports Package. It’s $80 and basically it enters you into a lottery for home games that require tickets (some sports don’t). When there is a game that you want to attend, you have to go stand in line to try and get the tickets.

There are additional season ticket options you get after purchasing the LASP that will give you guaranteed seats. For example, the football season ticket is $70, and you can buy a guest season ticket at full price with it ($400). You will have seats at each home game and are given priority to buy 1 ticket for the OU game in Dallas as well as other high demand away games (guest tickets aren’t eligible right off the bat) over LASP only ticket holders. Any tickets that remain available after the season ticket holders make their purchases are made available to LASP only ticket holders.

Both options allow you to create and join seating groups to try and get seats near your friends.

If I buy just the base LASP for $80 and have to participate in the ticket draw, am I able to request a few tickets for me and friends (some of which don’t attend UT)? Will our seats be next to each other?

No, not that I’ve ever seen/heard of. You can buy a guest LASP for your spouse or dependent, but not friends. If there are tickets left 3 days after the draw students can buy them at full price, but I’m not sure how they handle those being purchased for use by non-students (i.e. if they have your name printed on them, they might check the ID to make sure the person on the ticket is the one who’s using it). If you call the ticket office they can probably answer with more detail - they’re great and have always helped me when I called.

Students have to pay for tickets? Shouldnt they be free?

No pierre, they shouldn’t. Go away.

Thanks for the info Sundoll. She will be home tomorrow…so if she sets a group up tomorrow then her freinds have until the 23rd to join in the group…right?

Oh and I am guessing the Pierre has a new name :)

Right - at least that’s how I’ve always understood it. To my knowledge the priority date is the only thing that matters, not which order tickets are purchased and groups formed up to that date.

We’re pretty sure it’s Pierre - the posts are eerily similar, and Frenchie boy posts on the same forums pierre used to. I highly doubt having his first account banned would stop him from annoying us with his presence, hence the alter ego(s).

Thats crazy, you explained the process very well though. So do all the Big 12 students have to pay for tickets? or is this just a UT thing?

What does it matter to you? You “attend” Cougar High.

^^^^LOL…we just can’t shake that boy!

In the sake of general information, practically every major football program in the country charges for tickets for students and faculty, and even those that aren’t as successful do it. Pretty sure all Big 12 schools charge (only because an article from earlier in the year when Tech raised their prices touted it as one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, in the conference). There were 3 holdouts in the SEC but Tennessee just announced it will start charging (the other 2 being Vandy and South Carolina). Unless a school has a hard time filling the seats there really isn’t any reason to give them free to students - programs cost money, and the better they are, the more it costs to keep them that way.

If you think about it, $80 for the LASP is really reasonable - it covers all sports, not just football, and chances are not all students and faculty want to go to every game, so for some the lottery is doable and if they attend at least 8 games in a school year regardless of the sport, it’s 10 bucks a game - can you even see a movie for that cheap these days?

With that 17 million UT’s pulling in, you would think the faculty got free tickets.

$80 is reasonable though. Believe it or not i know a movie theater that charges $4 on Sundays, not a dollar movie either.

$80 is a LOT better than the $325 that A&M is charging. -_-

Is the 325 at A&M for students? Our general season tickets are $400, so they’re more expensive if that’s A&M gen. season price.

Yeah, $325 is the all sports package for students at A&M. Ridiculous for a crap football team. A&M charges $50 (or more) per regular home game, so probably around $400 for season tickets too.
